Take newborn on vacation (nature hike or camping)?

Has anyone been on a camping or hiking trip w/ a newborn (mine will be 3 mos old)? How was your experience? Any advice or concerns I should be aware of?

I doubt national parks are stroller friendly (are they?), so we'll most likely use the baby sling carrier. With the heat and sun and all the hiking, is it ideal to pick a nature spot as our vacation or should we just be cooped up at home during the holiday? (Also, with the heat, should I be giving the baby water or just formula.)
 
i live in ga and one great place to camp is vogal state park..i took my kids when they where that age and they did great. i would take your own bottle water for the formula. very stroller friendley. they have cabin if you dont want to camp in a tent. lots to do there. man made beach, beautiful mtn seanery.
 
Mine was 3 months in the middle of winter, so I could not have done somethign like that, but I don't think I would have if I could. My baby has allergies which would not have been good to take her out so early, She is almost 7 months now though and we are planning on taking her camping soon. Just take your own water. Most state parks have paved roads. You probably wouldn't be able to take a stroller on a nature walk, but just around the camp ground on the paved roads would work. If you want to take a nature walk use a sling or baby carrier that has mesh and can breath so baby doesn't get over heated. Also, lots of baby sunblock and a hat would be a good idea. If you have not used a sling or carrier with baby before, test one out before you go. My baby hates both, so we would not be able to do that. Good luck!
 
let me tell ya its ALOT of work! if you do decide to do it then get a cabin so you have everything you need. that makes things alittle better and take your own bottled water for the baby's formula.
 
Wow you must be supermom to be able to deal with that - that's a lot of work! I dont personally take my daughter out anywhere like that in case of the enviroment. If she is used to a certain air, climate, tempature, etc they might be more susceptible to getting sick or allergies. They cant tell you when they dont feel good so its better in my opinion to keep the conditions the same.
