Taggart 03/10/10

On STV only. The rest of the UK get it next year.

It's good to hear the Taggart song No Mean City again but it's not as good as the original version that I have on tape somewhere.

Taggart in the early days was very gritty for the time but ITVs influence over production was to make it less gritty for the rest of the ITV network. ITV had little involvement in production of this series so STV had more control giving us the type of gritty storylines Taggart used to have and what made Taggart great and popular not just here but in 80 countries worldwide.

i would have loved if they went back to the 3 parters like the original mark mcmanus ones.

and the new theme, just a pity its not the original maggie bell one. that one summed up the series perfectly

ITV were willing to axe it and STV went ahead and did a deal with Alibi. ITV were just trying to get back at STV for dropping programmes and when they realized STV were going ahead with it they were back on board.

I too enjoyed it. Good to see the grittiness back in the programme.

My only niggles about it are: "No Mean City" - I'm glad they're using the song version again but, why oh why did they ruin it? The iconic bass line was missing from the whole piece!

And; I'm not too keen on the "new offices". Probably because I know exactly what (and where) the "new offices" are... :D

Apart from that though, good effort and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

was bizaar they have moved offices that looked like the original 80s set and not the modern one they were previously in.

i know the building they filmed the new office in but what in real life was it used for?

I didn't like it  it's just not the programme it used to be.

I can't stand what they have done to the theme, why not just use the original?

Don't like the new offices and that redhead boss of Burke's made me feel like I was watching an episode of Rebus.

I've never been a fan of the hour long episode, its just over all too quickly and is often very predictable about who the murderer is.

And where is Stuart?!!!! How could they drop him, he is a brilliant character.

On the plus, loving Jackie's new look and Burke his usual sarky self :)

I didn't like the changes at all. Especially the camera work. They also seemed to play down the old rough Glasgow accent somewhat. And as for the offices didn't like it inside or out. Preferred the old outside view of the Polis Station (sorry Strathclyde Uni). The cast seemed as if they had too much make up on, maybe that was to cover up any defects that might be visible on HD.:)

Thy havent said the worRAB Maryhill for a long time have they ? one series it was Maryhill then they suddenly started using Strathclyde Police in the next .

[colin mcreadie was fired from the show by the new producers. theres not been any reason given. they didnt even mention him in the episode. it was like he'd never been in it. /QUOTE]

i feel sorry for colin macreadie that the producers dumped him - but i have to say that i thought the threesome of jackie, robbie and burke worked better. especially in the hour long format. its hard to find something for everyone to do when you only have an hour to fit everything into.

though i would have liked a mention of where colin macreadie's character had gone - perhaps something like he had been promoted or transferred. after being in it for such a long time, just to ignore the character seems a bit daft.
