T5 Screen. Can anyone help?

I bought a Tungsten T5 recently and found that I had one of the models which was prone to crashing so had to update it, which I did successfully. After that I added some 3rd party software (Date Bk5, BP Mgr, London Tube etc). It was then that I started having problems with crashing, and the bottom third of screen staying completely blank. I did a hard reset after removing all third party software and all is fine except for a 1-2 second blank shimmering screen every time I use the home button (quick or on screen), or use the other quick buttons following home button. I would take it back to the store but I bought it in another country which makes it difficult. I am new to Palm handhelds so would be grateful for any advise. Thanks.

The T5 is new so I supppose it's possible this is a software issue but I've never seen it come up in discussions yet. I really think you have a bad unit and the only way to fix it is to exchange it for a new unit. Regardless of where you bought it, you should be able to exchange it through the Palm service center for that country or region of the world, assuming you bought it from an authorized dealer. If it's a grey market unit, the only thing I can suggest is to call Palm and start begging.:(

Thanks Jim. I bought the T5 from an electrical store at Schipol Airport in Holland so Maybe I should contact them to see what they suggest. If I get no satisfaction I will contact Palm.

The duty free stores at airports are normally authorized dealers so they should be able to help you. You may have to go through the Dutch Palm service center instead of the UK center but I can't imagine that you shouldn't be able to get your 72 replaced since it's obviously faulty. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Wait, STOP!!!!!! Your T5 is NOT, repeat IS NOT defective! What you did is you installed two databases you shouldn't have.

AppSlipRotate.prc
StatusBarLib.prc

Those two databases, if you install them, will install overtop the two that come with the T5/OS 5.4. Your virtual grafitti area will go bye-bye, along with the status bar. Happened to me, figured out what was wrong, and deleted those two files. Use a program like Filez to remove them, or do a hard-reset and then restore your data. Just make sure you delete those two files out of your Backup folder first!!

Good luck.

Seems to be common to new T5 owners. The T3 apps you mention are NOT compatible - but many people are making that mistake.

Good call, "O T5 GrandMaster Whizkid!"

Thank you , Matthew. I forgot about those extra files needed by the T3 for screen rotation so that may indeed be the problem. Maybe we should make a sticky for people upgrading from a T3 to a T5 so they can catch issues like this before they become a problem.
