I was wondering if there is a way to reverse the update. After the update I am unable to use my electronic prescription program. I keep on getting a SUM error, forcing me to do a soft reset. It has rendered the program unusable. Please help.

Thanks

I don't think there's any easy way to reverse the upgrade since it changes the ROM fo your T5. Have you e-mailed the developer of your prescription program and told them of the problem? There may a slight incompatiability with the new ROM that can be easily solved with an update from the developer.

he is working on it. However I transmit >100 prescriptions a day. Now I have to write them out, really takes me a loong time.

What is it that is different about the update and how it uses memory??

Marc,

There are two types of upgrades. One is done in RAM (Random Access Memory) and you can reverse this because RAM is volatile memory and doesn't survive a hard reset. The other type of upgrade is to the ROM, or Read Only Memory. This is the type of upgrade you installed. It works by actually rewriting the non-volatile ROM EPROM. It will survive a hard reset because the contents of ROM never change. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon for a ROM upgrade to make some small changes in the way Palm processes program commands and some progams will break.

As a former hospital adminstrator, I sympathize with your predicament. If I can make a suggestion, don't rush off and do an upgrade, particularly a ROM upgrade, as soon as it is posted. Wait a week or so and check these forums to see if anyone has a problem with the upgrade. If not, you're probably safe to do the upgrade. I know there are other doctors who frequent these forums and now know, through your unfortunate experience, that they should wait until the developer gets an upgrade out before they do the ROM upgrade.

As the old saying goes, you can tell the pioneers by the arrows in thier backs. :)

Just finished the upgrade without a hitch. Freed up 10MB. Free memory before upgrade was 31.6MB and now it's 41.2MB so I'd say it's a good thing.

The process was a little different then the typical ROM updates but then less face it - there haven't been any typical ROM updates anyway.
