T5 Internal vs. External SD card

HI,
Im not so new to palm, however there are a few pretty basic features that I've never understood. I have a T5 and it seems that some applications install themselves on the internal card while some on the external card. How do I control where applications go? Also, how do I manipulate stuff on a card? When I check out the "card" catagory (which card is it anyway) I see a bunch of folders, but I can't seem to do anything with them. All this may have somthing to do with the fact that I've never been able to figure out how to use a file manager. I have the one that comes with my ZLauncher and I can install FileZ if need be. I know this is a little vague, but if anyone can help me where to get started I would greatly appreciate.

If you haven't used FileZ in recent versions you might give it another try. I think it is more intuitive than it used to be.

When installing apps on your T5 I assume you use the Hotsync Manager app? If so (I use a Mac) there should be two windows. You can put an app or file you are going to install on your T5 into either of the two wiindows. One is labeled device and the other is labeled SD card. Put your files where you want them to be. Some files will not be allowed on the SD card, but it should tell you so if you try to put it there.

To manipulate files with FileZ you first tap the triangle (folder/directory indicator) to the left of a name. this opens that folder. Then find a file or folder that you want to move or copy or delete etc. Tap on it to highlight it then go to the menu on top of the screen and select "copy" for instance. Now it will give you the list of places you can copy the selected file to. Tap on one to highlight it then tap OK (or whatever the button says).

It really is not too hard to do once you are looking at the screen. Just remember that and it should go easliy. Also, "copy" on the Palm means to 'make a duplicate of' but to put it somewhere else. "Move" means to take a file FROM one place and move it TO another place.

Hi,
Thanks for such a quick reply. I have spent some time navigating the new FileZ I downloaded and do understand some more about it. However I am still in the dark about most of it, but I think that now my questions can be more specific!
1) I am aware the hotsync operation will allow you to choose syncing to your Palm or to the card. But which card (internal or external), and how do I tell it which one I want it to go to?
2) I've figured how to navigate with the little triangles, but I don't know much what the titles mean. E.g., whats the difference between "AUDIO" and a file I saw called "RN_AUDIO". What is the folder that is called "DCIM" on the external card mean?
3) If all a file manager can do is move files around, I can do that with my ZLauncher. I can copy or move from the palm to the card (but cant seem to figure out how to control which card it will go on). I can delete etc. What can the file manager do besides. I did notice that it lets me see if I have duplicates, I saw some of the same songs on my internal and external and weas able to delete. So I guess I did use it for something!

Many Thanks---Shten
