hey this is my first post here...i read a few posts about people being a little pissed at palm about shipping. they sent me a letter saying the palm shipped and it didnt ship till 3days later. a palm CS rep said "that is how they do it" with no explanation.

anyway im thinking im going to return this. i use to have the low end zire 21 until i broke it a few months back.

anybody use the versamail program? it can't do what i was promised it would do. I have 3 email accounts in outlook and they all have there own sub folder off of the inbox that the emails get sorted into. Apparatnly versamail only works off of the inbox and can't keep track of mail once it moves there....this sounds pretty stupid to me and i don't understand why it can't just sync and copy all the folders.

I spoke to a palm tech support supervisor who basically said there was nothing i could do. I really wanted to use this palm to sync and take my email with me in the AM and send when i sync later. but i can't do that without mixing up all 3 of my email accounts. Anyway have anmy suggestions or know of any other programs that can handle what i need? i tried snappermail but that didnt work either.

thanks,
mark

VersaMail can handle different accounts and then sort them into various places. It's in the DESKTOP configuration tool. You could always check mail directly through VersaMail, but tell it to leave the messages on the server so you can go back and pick them up with Outlook. I've had no trouble with it.

Perhaps you've been reading our discussions about the T5. I'm still waiting for mine, and hopefully it'll be here fairly soon. You've got one already, so you know better than the rest of us probably, but I'll be posting a review on the PDA as soon as I can. Maybe you'll want to take a look at this. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum!!

There are several possible problems.

1. The T5 is glitching (doubtful if all else is synching correctly)

2. The desktop portion isn't "set up properly;" this got ME so frustrated I uninstalled VersaMail permanently from the T3 I have. HOWEVER: I have heard good things about SnapperMail, and also Iambic Mail -- if snapper isn't doing it EITHER, then . . .

3. Something in Outlook itself may have to be tweaked a little.
I'd blame the need for the PIMS upgrade, but so far as I know that only applied to the T3 - a patch that was supposed to help Outlook users. I believe one was for the desktop and one for the T3 itself - but that point should be moot if you've got a T5.

When I tried VersaMail it would SEND emails just fine, but would not "upload and allow reading," which is exactly what you need. It makes sense to hotsync twice (am/pm) and have your email handled on the Palm - that's the whole idea!! However, I couldn't get it to work and got rid of it. I synch with the Palm Desktop by the way, not Outlook. As a matter of fact I got rid of using Outlook altogether for monitoring emails, and went strictly with "direct log-in." You should not have to shop for another program when you "paid" for VersaMail - but that might be the easiest solution unless someone else on here (and there are many "Outlook whizkids!") can give you some tips.

Try taking a "break," having a think, and then re-analyze your settings carefully. There may be a simple solution of "check this box" that you've missed -- Outlook's famous for that -- and you'll be fine. I hope so, anyway. Many people on here SWEAR AND LIVE BY Outlook so I'm sure you'll get some input. One of the reasons I tacked on a post here was to bring it to the top of the list so you'll get more "hits;" I'm sure someone can help you that's a bigger Outlook fan than I am.

Cheers.

matt had contacted me via email and made some suggestions....it checking out what he suggested...which wasnt really anything i hadnt tried before at palms suggestion...i did come across one option they didnt even talk about.

in the hotsync->custom->versamail menu there is a "folder syncronization" button...this looks liek a basic maping function similar to exporting/syncing files and information that im sure most of us have seen before....simialr to syncing my old phone directly to outlook...anyway it actually appears that i can CHECK which folders i want it to sync with....and there by chooses the 3 sub folders that the palm support supervisor told me I COULD NOT sync with.

unfortunatly I now went to try this and my palm crashed and had to be reset (2nd time since being out of the box in 2 days) after reseting it...my palm is now in a cycle where it just sits with a blank screen and a reset button that doesnt respond when being pressed....ive tried using the reset button 4 or 5 times now and get the same result......

I've found using subfolders that contain emails from several different accounts that you'll need to have the handheld's 3 email accounts setup before you try and sync. You can also set up the 3 email accounts via the hotsync "change" options as you previously noted for the subfolders.

But it sounds as if you've got a software conflict on the T5.

I'd recommend a hard reset, rename the backup directory for your user name to "old" (path should be something like this C:\program files\palm\SR (or User Name)\backup.

After you've hot synced there will be a new backup directory created where you had previously renamed it....then you can compare the files in the two directories to see if something has made it's way into the T5 that shouldn't be there. This could include a "previous" Palm's files that might be causing the conflict.

hey first off everyone...thanks for your help it seems like you guys know way more then the TS people at palm (who by the way barely speak English)

mhamann: that link didnt work...can you tell me the name of the article on the palm site you were trying to point me to???

i finally performed a hard reset and got the palm up and running again...ive been exporting my entire outlook to a .pst file before i do anything so no worries on the backup.

as for versamail. I used the "set folder sync" button (or whatever it was called.) and it seemed to work. I'm starting with one account at a time...lets call it A. I started in the folder sync options and set on the folder on outlook with account A to sync to account a on the palm...and i set the inbox on outlook to NOT sync. The emails from account A synced into the a account on the palm. However, on the palm they are not in the inbox, but appear when i use the top right tab to show me "all" folders. Nothing goes into the inbox.

the palm also appeared to sync the 3 old emails that were sitting in the inbox on outlook that are not from account A.

Another glitch....it wont let me delete anything out of the trash. If i was able to delete...i could try more things to remedy the palm grabbing those non account a folders. and just to be clear on the palm and on the palm desktop custom....i only have my account a setup and the versamail account it has by default.

I'm assuming ill be able to do this for the 2 other accounts....but want to figure out why i cant delete off the palm

im off to the apple store to try and see if i can send email or view web over bluetooth...as palm told me i can, apple told me i can't and they are the only place i know with a bluetooth connection i can try.....even though im running on winxp....i want to see if i can send an email or surf web as most places ill be with bluetooth have macs

Go here: http://kb.palmone.com Then in the search the knoweledgebase box, type "T5 Reset Loop." That should give you the correct article.

When I get my T5, I'll be setting up mail, so I'll check on the ability to delete. Hopefully the mailman will arrive soon....very soon.
