T3 return options

I have been experiencing digitizer problem for the last 3 months, and am pretty fed up with it. I am seeking options, either lose my T3 for one month or pay $39.99 to receive an unit first. What are your experience with palmone returns?

I was not offered the advance repair option. I just sent my unit back. I sincerely hope that it does not take a month. I am already experiencing separation anxiety.

Sorry, posted this once before, but Lamb of Silence:
I had to return a T2 twice. First time, no advance return, saved $40 but found out how hard it is to manage affairs with post-its pasted to every flat surface...Howeever, I was without the unit under two weeks, and they had indicated two weeks was normal. Next time, advance returned (may have to ask for it- I was not offered it) and paid the man.

I would use this option in the future...

Downside: you 'may' get a unit that meets Palm repairs acceptability for cosmetics, it may not meet yours. Mine had a scratch and a dent, yes dent. But I would not return if for anything- mechanically & electronically flawless, as was screen & digitizer. Heck, I can live with a shopping cart dent(s) in my car....why not in my T2? Bottom line: I got a superb unit back from Palm, and I got it within three days of starting the process.

One more thing, if you advance return, follow their directions EXACTLY so that your return gets logged in properly when it is received in Texas at the repair station. They eventually sent me a notice that it had not been returned, but Palm Support (in India) took care of that immediately, during a phone call.

Overall, both experiences with Palm repair were positive.

Good luck!

Cemuller, thnx for sharing your experience, I am still undecided on which service to use. Advance return sounds pretty good, but it is still $40. (plus the postage?)

TweetyT3, let us know how things are going with your return.

Lamb of Silence....
That was another neat thing, it covered inbound shipping AND Palm provided a prepaid outbound mailer.

By the way, when you see how Palm packs these things, your recognize how rugged they actually are (except for the screen course). If you do advance exchange, all they want is the device, no stylus, etc. Oh, and make sure your pull your SD card- easy to overlook.

I just wanted to keep you informed of my T3 saga with Palm. I mailed my T3 to Palm last Wednesday. It arrived on Thursday. I called to check on it. I tried to follow it's progress by phone. I was told that my T3 was with the repair division and all that she could tell me was the same answer for every question I asked. It will be repaired within 5-7 days. I tried to ask how it would be shipped and how long it would take, and could someone email me when it is shipped. She kept repeating that it was due to be shipped on the 14th. Then she said that it would arrive by the 14th, possibly sooner. I was left very confused but hopeful.

I checked online today and the site said that it had been shipped airborne and showed a tracking number. I tried to use the tracking number but the airborne site said that it could not find the tracking number, try again later. I think that they were just trying to make me feel good, it has not actually been shipped yet.

When I do get it back, am I correct that I should be able to tell my own unit by the serial #? It should not be reconditioned right?

I am so hoping that this will turn out well in the end. Somehow I have some reservations. Will my T3 be as good as new?.......

...But everything that you said happened exactly like that with my first return. And yes, if the serial number is the same, you got your unit back (they do not remove/replace those labels). I too could not track my unit - until after it was received! Good luck and as the prior poster said- let us know how it works out!

nope you diffinitely wount get the old one back. they refurb all units they sent out. i have yet got one to ship me mine with the wounderful friggin sony dammm screen. you can tell im littled pissed off at the hole situation. atleast this damm thing works for now.....

It's home! I checked the serial # and it is my original T3! We are bonding as I write and I am restoring my favorite apps. So far ok, it was 50% charged when I got it.

Funny story: I knew that it was being delivered today from tracking DHL #. No one was at home when the attempt was made. I had hoped that the kids would be home. I called DHL and was told that they would attempt to redeliver so I went home living not far from my office. On route home the DHL truck crossed in front of me to park at a sandwich shop. I followed him in and asked if I was on his delivery route. My T3 was on the truck! He let me take it. What we won't do for our little Palms.

Anyways, I think I need a few days to assess how it operates. Let's hope that I don't have to send it back again.

Tweety :p

From May 5th to May 12th, that is not bad at all!

So digitizer thingie is fixed?

btw, the tech support guy also said that i will get the same unit back if I do the regular return. I have a dent in the bottom of the T3 (clumsy hands), should I do an Advance Return? :)

I never had a digitizer issue. My unit still crashes on find command. At this point I don't care if I never use it. I can live with that.

If advance return means that you can get a new case without a dent yes. If you can guarantee that you won't get someone else's dent no.

What do you think?

So, why did you return the T3? I thought you were having the digitizer problem like I did.

Hm... $40 to fix both digitizer and the dent...

No, my unit went totally dead. Like it fried internally. I had a green light on while in the cradle, but nothing I could do would turn it back on. I am going to call today to find out what the prognosis was. I am guessing that the day that it crashed every 2 minutes fried the motherboard.

This past Monday I gave up and returned my T3 to Palm Canada due to the lower strip of icons digitzer problem and I also noted some problems hitting some of my agendus appointments. ie there is a spot midscreent hat cannot be accesssed. Fedex picked it up from my office in Victoria BC at 1 pm and it arrived in MArkham Ontario at 11 pm the next day. I was told repair would be within 5 working days so that is by tues next week My hope is it wioll be forwarded to me the follwing day which is a wed I hope I am not too optimistic to expect it Thursday one week hence. In the mean time I am relegated to my wife's 505. Not a bad machine actually. Same battery life as t3 but smaller. nice in the post although I am now used to the t3's reassuring presence on my belt. I installed KS datebook on her 505 andrather like it except no icons. Lat friday I ordered a "new" m500 from ebay. Hope to see it today or tomorrw ( intransit to Spokane Washington) according to UPS. I was intrigued by the m 500's 8 hour battery life. Since this wil be my back up palm color and gamers are not critical. I anticipate more t3 repairs re: this digitizer issue. I now wish I had not given my old 515 to my son in law.

acolythe, you ordered a m500 from ebay to sub your T3 for 2 weeks? man, aren't we all depending on palms now. I think my memory is getting worse since I recorded everything on my T3. :)

Unfortunately I fell in love with the capabilities of the T3. My friend bought a 515 which is a nice machine too. I love the larger screen though. I had a Sony Clie T65 prior, but there is nothing like a T3. I just wish that there were not so many issues associated with it.

Even though I tried to convince her to go with the Tapwave, she fell in love with the T3 :D

TweetyT3 is a coworker of mine. We are constantly comparing notes. I still like my iQue better!

Rainbeau just wants to play the supergames on a zodiac. But I will tell you that if I keep having problems with my T3 I might send it to ebay and buy the zodiac.

My palm has been gone for 5 days today. I know my t3 arrived at the repair depot on Tuesday ( today is Friday) I hope they will repair it in 5 working days as promised. That's next tuesday and perhaps I'll have it back by the end of next week. In the meantime as note I ordered a Palm m 500. 8 hour battery life Wow. Now in meetings I'll not have to worry about charging my t3 at lunch. I am wondering why I bought the T3 now. It almost seems that I was caught up int he wonder of the new technology. And truth be told I know I'll fall in loive all over again on its return. Meantime I am using my wife's 505 and wondering if i should have ordered a 505 or 515. Then again... if its a backup palm for color nad current os is not necessary. As long as it functions with the core aps and aganedus I'll be fine. I rodered the palm m500 not just for two weeks but for the anticipated future repairs of my digitizer. I expect to be sending it back every 4 to 6 months. Am I being overly dramatic?
