T3 - Random Spontaneous Shutdowns?

A few days ago my T3 started turning itself off occasionally for no apparent reason. It's happened about 15 times so far, at seemingly random intervals while I've been using various programs: I've been looking up contact info, entering something in my calendar, or playing solitaire, Bejeweled or TextTwist and it just suddenly shuts off as if I hit the power button. When I use the power button to turn it back on, whatever I was using appears on the screen and functions perfectly as if nothing had happened. It's always been at full or near-full charge, and I haven't installed anything new in over a month (and even then I only added a few pdb ebooks - no new programs or system changes for more than 3 months). It's about 1.5 years old and I've never had any problems with it before. Could my battery be going bad, or does anyone have any other suggestions as to what could be happening and how I can fix it?
Thanks for any help!

Other info that may or may not be relevant:

?free memory listed as 14226k of 53248k
?512MB Kingston SD card kept in card slot, infrequently accessed

?auto-shutoff set to 3 minutes (just timed it and this seems to function correctly)

Do you have "Power off when closed" selected in the Power prefs? If so could it be powering off because it is sliding slightly closed? Mine will do this ocassionally. I haven't owned since new so I'm not sure if it's always done that. It could be that whatever mechanism in the slider that causes the power off is beginning to malfunction.

Good suggestion, thingdriver, but the Bellagio case mine lives in has an elastic extender for opening the screen which makes keeping the screen fully open a bit awkward, so if that was my problem it'd be turning itself off constantly ;). I have it set to turn on when the slider is opened, but not to turn off when it's closed. The majority of the "spontaneous shutdowns" have occured when the slider is already firmly closed anyway (I don't bother to open it for the games I mentioned). Thanks for the help attempt, though. :)
