T3 Fatal Alert

I've had my T3 for only a few weeks now and was syncing it and it all just went horribly wrong. It came up with a Fatal Alert

SystemMgr.c,Line:5852,
SyLinkerStub():Failed to load the shared library.

I've tried resetting it by pressing the reset on the screen and by resetting it at the back. It just comes up again. It won't even switch off!

Is it totally knackered?

Is there anything that can be done?

Help:confused:

I would advise a hard reset and then reinstalling/syncing things. To do that, I believe you would press the reset button on the back WHILE holding down the power button. When you see the Palm logo on the screen, let go of the power button. You should then immediately see a message asking if you want to delete all your data and restore the T3 back to factory defaults. It will have you use the buttons to confirm this rather than the touchscreen.

If the error comes back after syncing, that means you've installed a bad application and it's been restored. You'll need to rename your backup directory in the Palm Desktop folder and then install each application again. You may want to do the installs one at a time until you figure out which is the problem app.

Hope this helps.

Try a hard reset. Something has gone haywire and the soft reset won't cut it.

To do a hard reset....hold down the power button at the same time that you put the pin in the back. Then when the screen comes up and asks you if you want to delete all data answer yes with an up push on the Dpad.

You will lose all info but it sounds as if the device is useless anyway at the moment. The data should be restored upon your next hotsync and then you can see if the problem returns.

If it does after hotsyncing then you've got a corrupted program or data that was recently installed, my guess.

At that time - copy the hotsync log and post back into this thread and we'll get you through the issue.

Thanks a lot - it is working now - as suggested I had to delete my backup files on my desktop, but really, that leaves me with a lot less stress than I had when I posted. :)
It all seems to be working now and I don't now need to tell my wife when she gets back from holiday that I wrecked my new gadget. I'll just tell her that I nearly wrecked it.
Seriously though Pilot and Moose Man, thanks for taking the trouble to help me out - much appreciated.

I'm very new to the Palm platform myself, having years of experience on the WindowsCE platform (which is why I'm listed as a "Moderator" here -- moderator of the WinCE forums!). I was a big fan of the WindowsCE based Handheld PC's (H/PC), which were the clamshell design with touch-typeable keyboard and 1/2 VGA screen. When Microsoft decided to abandon the H/PC formfactor and mimmick the Palm with the PocketPC, I decided that I would instead go with the original instead of the immitator.

Anyway, long story made short (TOO LATE!), I had these same types of questions and problems just months ago when I bought my first Palm (a used M500). Don't worry -- you'll learn all this stuff really quick. I'm now a wiz with my Tungsten T2, and I could just smack myself upside the head for lingering with the H/PC formfactor for so long instead of the simplistic but powerful Palm!

As for your wife and your Palm toy -- I don't know about you, but my wife would be celebrating if I broke my T2! "What, do you only communicate via stylus now?!" and "Doesn't that thing ever need to be recharged so it will be out of your hands for at least an hour?!" are commonly heard at my house! :o

I'm glad it worked out for you!
