T3 died

T3 finally died. Have been out of touch a while. What should I replace it with, I need to make sure I can hotsync my desktop info to the new one, and what is out there. I also have a lot of programs and photos on my card, would like to use it also, but not critical. Wireless is not a big need, but memory is. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Well if you want a new replacement from Palm your options are limited:

Life Drive

TX

E2

or Z22 and that's it short of going to a "mobile manager" Treo.

The TX is fairly stable for most programs and I like it's form factor because it's the same as my T5. I've been considering upgrading to a TX but now I think I'll wait to see if Palm replaces either the LD or TX with a new "fall" version - usually October.

The LD has a lot of power but comes at the expense of size. I owned one briefly when they first came out and because of the hard drive it was noticeably slower then the T5 and bulkier......didn't fit my style.

E2 - also due to be replaced soon if Palm follows their usual model. But they are so focused on Treo's - well a handheld is not yet a thing of the past but it's not the leading edge it once was.

So I'm back to the TX - as a recommendation.

The TX can handle pretty much what you had on the T3 and more - I've had both PDAs. Were you using the voice recorder on the T3? This is lacking on the TX though there're third party microphones.

The TX is a lovely machine and the first Palm to actually make me reconsider carrying my iBook everywhere. No mean feat!

Be careful what you load on it as it can be cranky. I'd highly recommend the free NV Backup to help you selectively restore apps/files.

Thank you both. No I dont use the voice record, merely need to replace the calendar and phone book and a few medically related (ePocrates, etc) programs Bibles, and some games.

Maybe the Zire 22 would do if that's what you'll be needing the PAlm for. The TX may be an expensive overkill...

A T3's 400mhz processor versus a Z22's 200mhz and two fewer buttons.

Go for the overkill - the TX has a 312mhz and a more familiar button layout. Screen resolution as well....if your used to a 320 X 480 of the T3 then go back to the Z22's 160 X 160 or the E2's 320 X 320, well lets just say disappointment and regret for not choosing the "overkill".

Overkill should not be an issue for a "doctor"? Plus if he were to play his cards correctly, his office might be able to wirelessly send him staff updates to his pocket TX.

You make an excellent point. My apologies, hadn't realized the specs were that much lower.

Did you know that Palm is running a promotion where you get a free 1Gb card if you buy a TX? Offer expires at 11.59pm on July 9th? See Palm store, Special offers section if interested...

Sorry for the misunderstanding, my wife is the doctor and the "dr" is a pun using our first initials and her occupation (veterinarian). Regardless, the point is well taken and I would rather have reserves available than push the limit. I went through my first three Sharp PDA's in exactly that same manner. I bought a 16mb, then upgraded to a 64mb (within a week). Fortunately at that time, Office Depot allowed me to just pay the difference. But then I upgraded to a 128mg which lasted a while. Then I switched to Palm and the rest is history, so they say. Thanks again for the advice, and I assume that they all would just hotsync to my desktop to retrieve my current information?
Sorry for the duplication, but also what about battery life and rechargability (time to recharge and longevity of a charge).

Battery life on the TX is waaaaaaay better than the T3. I think there're tests results online.
I charge my TX when I remember to. I was more paranoid about battery life with the T3.
