I have a t3 with a dead battery. Already bought a new one but found it very hard to open the unit.
I cannot dettach the case, I only found 6 screws . Please, let me know if there is some hidden anywhere and how to open it.
Thanks a lot. Antonio

Hi artcsmota ? Heather from palmOne writing. Regarding replacing rechargeable batteries in your device, we do not recommend opening the handheld to replace the battery. Opening your handheld to replace the rechargeable battery may void your warranty. If your device in the future needs a new internal battery, do not try to replace it yourself. Replacement of rechargeable cells requires a factory replacement. If you are experiencing abnormal battery life from your handheld, we suggest you contact palm technical support for diagnosis and repair.

Send your handheld to the designated repair facility for service. Battery replacement is covered under manufacturer's warranty, so the repair for a failed unit is available during the warranty period.

See our Repair page (http://www.palm.com/us/support/contact/repair.html)for more information on getting your handheld serviced if there is a problem.

I hope this was useful.

Heather,
Would you mind reinterating the issues of opening a PDA to the aireq who started the thread: "Is mad digitizer inevitable?" - this *%#$@&% apparently thinks that opening the PDA and resetting the digitizer is standard Modus Operandi and the only way to do it.
Thanks,
Carol

Is it? For the love of God, is it? Are we destined to be chided - not for a software solution - oh no, that would be too easy - but for the HARD and FINAL solution . . .

Only time will tell. My God, the humanity. Carol and I have both had enough . . . and to make matters worse . . . I'm making more coffee as we speak, and have two "RockStar" drinks chillin' in the fridge.

It's going to be a long Groton, CT / L.A. evening, boys and girls . . . . .

and Carol & I are ready! We're not takin' any C**P any more. Do you feel lucky, punk? Well . . . DO YA? PUNK!? "Just gettin' warmed up," a la Pacino . . .

As for the battery question, I think Heather's got great advice there. Hi Heather! Welcome back! Wish I'd thought of that before I strapped a T5 and a LifeDrive to a DieHard and got rid of the coffee and RockStar on it . . . .

Are you in India, too, Heather? Have you ever talked to anyone over there regarding a return, or seen a letter from Customer Support that re-states your name in the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs very politely, always followed by a nice little "comma," and then repeats your question to you as advice? Just curious. Personally I'll take my chances repairing my own, as others have taken to doing, since explaining a battery or digitizer problem to "Abu from the Simpsons" would probably take 3 days anyway.

Hey - remember when (I think it was "palmOne" then - might have been "Palm") told people if they put stuff in flash, and took it out of volatile RAM memory, they'd VOID their warranty? Then came out with . . . non volatile memory? I do.

Please pardon my sarcastic venting here; you have posted here before
(here's an example, replete with neat responses from TWO moderators - I did a search while in the middle of this rant and had NO IDEA this existed until about 2 minutes ago!):

http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=52588&highlight=Heather+Cullen

. . . but let's be honest. Not only is Customer Service "lacking" at Palm or PalmOne or Palm9xJH or whatever it is this week . . . . it's virtually non-existent. That's why we've got people trying to replace their own batteries Helen - God forbid they should be stuck with one of your new models. I'm in that boat myself.

In fact, Heather, (see, I copied your form letters) you're the best offering I've ever SEEN of their customer service . . . and nothing personal. Simply judging you on your kind posts here, you should be running it. You didn't even put commas after the OP's name.

Hey Paul;

Great post, but you should be more direct and tell us how you really feel. What kind of coffee is that?

best wishes

JDon

There is a how to replace the battery on a t3 at the link below. Of course doing this would void any warranty on the pda, but if it passed that time period its an option, and its not hard.

Look for the T3 battery and one of the links is the instruction.
I have never done it, but it looks pretty easy.

Good luck

Heather from Palm(One), you are alive! As you know, there is some feeling around and about that you are an automatic response bot...clearly not!

< rant>I guess the point is that, as you will have gathered from this and the other forums that you contribute to, people here are looking for efficient, cheap solutions to their problems. The standard Palm responses (dont take the back off, do a hard reset - problem is due to 3rd party software etc) really doesnt cut it here. We know that 3rd party software can cause problems and that taking the back off voids the warranty for chrissakes! Thanks for referring us to the Palm support FAQ but.... What we really want to know is where are the ROM updates etc that fix demonstrably bad, spaghetti code, if it moves patch it programming (OS5.4.X otherwise known as FrankenGarnet) in the light of incredibly lax beta testing of the released OS versions, for example (I specifically refer you to the inexcusable T3-SD card fiasco).....if you can help us with this, then you will truly be a great contributor to these discussions. however, trotting out the corporate line is really no help at all! PPCs are making serious inroads into Palm's territory. Dont be like Apple and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory (ok, they are making a great comeback). PalmOS rocks, but you have to make sure it stays that way!

Cheers

Heather,

Thanks for taking the time to respond the second time. Since I was one of the people who thought you were a bot, I humbly apologize. :)

However, it's important that users get more than just a standard answer of "Send it to Palm and we'll fix it for $150". The T3 is no longer a current PalmOne production machine and it's unlikely that it's still under warranty. As Palm's go, the T3 battery is reasonably easy to replace, and all PDA batteries will wear out at some point in their life cycle. Users come here for information about how to keep their Palm's running even thought they are not current production models. Since you are not in tech support, I don't expect you to know about giving information about battery replacement but some of us here have replaced Palm batteries many times. Referring users to the Palm KB can be very helpful for software problems but users do need to replace parts that break and Palm service is often not a very cost or time effective way to accomplish this.

hey guys i also need to replace the battery but i was looking for a better one,do you know if there is one out there that will last more than the original t3 battery ?let's say with 1200 mAh

thanks
daniel

I haven't seen any T3 battery packs that are anything other than the original 850 mAh battery. I suspect that the amount of room for the battery is so tight that it would be difficult to make a larger capacity battery pack.
