T3 as USB Drive

Anyone know if there is a way to access the SD memory card directly through the T3 via the hot sync cable/USB 2 cable? In essence using the T3 like a memory card reader to access the SD memory. Is this possible? Is there any application that will allow this? I hate taking out my SD card to access the files.

I use my SD card for the T3 and also to store files (eg. using it as a memory stick). Right now, I need to carry the simpletech bonzai to access the SD card as a storage drive. I would have to take the SD card out of the T3, put it into a bonzai to access the SD card as a drive. Is there a better way? Is there a way to do it using the T3? Thanks.

CANNOT remember the name, but it's on THIS FORUM and has been discussed often and recommended often!

Do a search for "virtual" and that may come up with it. Just can't remember the name right now - but yes, you can get it.

ADDENDUM: got it!! It's called CardExport

That's amazing. I knew there's gotta brilliant people in here who knows. Thank you so much.

I have a universal USB2 travel/charger so that I can use the USB2 cable to connect to the computer or to the travel charger. I plan on accessing my SD card as storage with multiple computers via the cable and T3. Hope this works. Now, I need to check it out to see if that's the only application and how well it works.

dono222,

I've been using Card Export for some time now, and it has worked flawlessly with my T3 and Laptop. Many times I only copy a new app to the SD card (Palm/Launcher) and run it that way. It saves the time of a hotsync and I haven't run into any problems.

You should be aware that applications that install a "conduit", meaning they update from the PC or the Internet, shouldn't be installed this way, since you bypass the "conduit" install and don't have the updates the conduit may provide. (e.g. StockTracker, MobiPocket reader)

As far as other files go, you can load photos (jpg), doc files (Word) or any other file to the SD card. If you have a program on your Palm that can access the files (SplashPhoto / Docs To Go latest release) directly then you can view the files on the Palm. Other files can be stored on the SD and then read by another computer when you "link up".

The only "shortcoming" I have with Card Export is it doesn't "see" the Palm RAM, only the card. But with a program such as McFile or Filez (freeware), you can move items from the SD card to RAM and back.

fnagle,

Thanks for the great tips and suggestions. IMHO on the jpg viewers, I have used other photo jpg viewers out there; but nothing has a significant incremental value compared to the one that is already native on the T3. The one on the T3 loads faster than most other jpg viewers. The only thing that it is lacking is perhaps a photo albumn to sort/organize, zoom, and the file must be under the DCIM folder. However, what the other viewers possess, they are lacking in other areas as well. So I've found that the Photo viewer in T3 works for me. Somewhat off subject; but trying to contribute back to forum, I guess. Take care. ciao.

I agree with fnagle, "card export" makes your Palm T3 a USB card reader/writer. I made a folder named "applications" and I run my seldom used applications from there.

It only takes seconds to load large files to the SD card (mp3, pictures), and it is a good tool for defragmenting your card thru the PC.
