T-zone confusion

Ive had my 7100 for quite sometime and I finally ordered an 8100 this past week. The 8100 came in today, and I have been having some fun setting up my phone the way I like it, and the meny system needs some definite getting used to. I am sure I'll learn well enough to navigate to exatly what I need with little hassle in a week or so.

Anyway, the point of this thread is more a hate/rant toward T-mobile. I had fixed all the phone settings on my phone, and I was checking out the browser to see how a site looks on my new phone compared to my old phone and that is where the trouble started.

For starters, whenever I loaded up my browser it defaulted to t-zone and tried to con me into paying an extra $6/mo for interweb browser and 'stuff'. The page looked very dubious, so I went to my.t-mobile page and checked to see if I had the blackberry internet plan as part of my main plan and sure enough it was there.

I fiddled around in the browser settings and it didnt let me switch the default browser at all nor the homepage. It would not even let me browse to a manually inputted site like google and such. Now this reaaaaaaaally ticked me off. So I called up T-mobile and they switched me to the BB dept and sure enough after the lady walked me through similar attempts to get it to work, she made me go in and clear out my "Service Boook". I deleted it all, one by one, and mind you there were over 10 junk things there.

The lady on the phone even sighed when I mentioned what some of the things were. After which she resent me the services and this fixed my problem.

Now, sure I got it all fixed. But this really bothered me. A less tech savvy customer would surely fall for the t-zone con job and fork over and extra $6/mo and in the very least pay at least one month for this before challenging or at worst leave that on their plan!!??

Seriously, am I just being silly or is that really screwed up?

Most reps know that users won't and don't nee the $6 plan. I think that is for older less sophisticated phones. All the older phones default to that page for setting up a 'internet plan'. My old Samsung T809 did it everytime I accidentally hit the button. Since you didn't have the BB service books it just went to default and brought you to that page. I wouldn't worry about it. All is well in TMO land. Remember they do have the cheapest data package

Buck, unfortunately this type of thing happens occassionally with TMO (and other carriers for that matter). I can't tell you how many times my accounts (service books) were set up wrong. It's always a good idea when you call TMO to immediately ask for the BB Department!

Welcome to rabroad, Buck.

Actually, you may want to check to see what your Default Browser configuration. Go to Options/Advanced Options/Browser. It should be set to Internet unless you are on a BES then you might want it to be MDS.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help with your BB.

Nah I got it fixed on my own by calling up the BB dept of T-mobile.

But let me clarify something. The only browser option available WAS t-zone. There was no internet browser installed or available to chose from the list. And even when she had installed it onto my phone, then I had the two options, whenever I chose internet browser, it would default back to t-zone each and every time.

She had me whipe the phones Service Book and she resent me it all to get it to work.

Either my phone was a unique snow flake or that was definitely a con job.

Just my 2 cents. Im a big fan of T=mobile. I like em, Ive had one plan or another through them for over 6 years now.

There was no con job. You're blackberry just was not set up correctly. If the phone has some data connection but not the right configuration you will get a random error message. Just like with phone calls. If the switch is having an issue or you are not set up properly on the network you will get a random, generic error message that the number is not in service. It does not mean that youre account is cancelled. It just means that the system cannot find you. Do not put so much stock into error messages. PS even if you did select the 5.99 sign up option, nothing would happen. It's not going to charge you instantly. the 5.99 feature is for reg cell phones. if you tried to add it the system would recognize you have the bb feature and not add it on.

whenever you are missing icons, you can have your service book resent... this can be done at the 'my t-mobile' site, as well as on the berry itself at "settings > advanced > host routing table > menu / register now'
