T-Mobile vs. Verizon in Texas

I'm in Austin, TX and thinking of making the switch to T-Mobile. I like the fact that their BB data plan is half that of VZW. Looking for opinions on how T-Mobile compares to Verizon in Texas. From what I've read the EDGE network is not as fast as EVDO, but I primarily use email, SMS, and BB messenger, so I don't think that will make that big of a difference.

I've been perfectly happy with Verizon, but that data package is way overpriced. Please let me know if you use T-Mobile in Texas and if you have any major coverage issues, or voice quality problems with your BB, etc. Thanks!

i haven't used vzw here in austin, but am using both cing and t-mo here.

cw and vzw were the heavy hitters in houston, but cing was the only service that truly worked everywhere. there were a few places where i would have no pink service whereas my orange was still going, and in these places, red wasn't too hot either.

here, t-mo kicks the pants off cing in both strength and stability of signal - at least in my 7105t and NOK6230, the same handsets i used back in houston.

i've suffered at least a half dozen dropped calls on cing here in the nine months i've neen here, and that was my total number of dropped calls on cing back in houston from '02 to '06 - i've lost only one dropped t-mo call and that was due to a handset freeze.

i know that doesn't help you too much with the t-mo to vzw comparison, but considering t-mo's beating vzw's biggest competitor...

I'm here in katy, tx, and tmo works great, never had a single dropped call, it's funny in the area i am right now the signal strength is very weak "2 bars", but i always get my emails and calls, coming from sprint i think tmo has the best deals and the best service. Another good thing about tmo is, that you can change your plan as you go without having to wait until the next billing cicle. I went to my father in law's ranch in Runge TX in between victoria and corpus c, i was in the middle of the woods, and my BB worked perfect........i highly recommend it

I have used T-Mobile and Cingular and I have to agree with those who say T-Mobile works. I don't remember how strong my phone's signal was with Cingular, but with T-Mobile, I have never had very many problems losing signal except a few times at home and while out of the Houston area. I travel to the Brenham area for camp in the summer and have to fight to get a signal.

The only time I've dropped calls is with a faulty headset which I trashed LOL
Other than this, I love the service.

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~I'm in atx also and tmo is the best service I've ever had I had cingilar att and verizon thru the years and they all sucked only used bb on tmo tho

Thanks for all the feedback. I've been happy with Verizon, but they are slow to get new phones, and their BB data plan price is outrageous compared to T-Mobile. Pretty sure I'll be making the switch.

Don't know if you travel much in TX but if you travel out to W Tx at all forget about service on Vzn much of the time unless you have an analog phone. T-Mobile has GSM coverage and roaming available over much of W Tx. Around DFW T-Mobile is rock solid and pretty well covered along I-10 and I-20 all the way to El Paso.

I used to have Sprint while in San Antonio TX. Countless dropped calls and shoddy customer service turned me to look at other providers (I paid the $150 early termination fee...my service was so bad) and went to Verizon! Haven't been happier!!! I've had some dropped calls, but no where as many as with Sprint. Customer Service has been great any time that I needed them and my overall service experience has been been wonderful.

I've used Verizon with "regular" cellphones and now my BB...Love it!!!
