T Mobile Prepaid sim card in pearl 8100 data .. Yes !!!

There is a closed thread here stating that you have to have BB data program to get ANY Data services -

I found that I could get My T Zone going with my prepaid sim card ( T Mobile ) in an T mobile Pearl 8100 that I bought 2nd hand.

First I had to get the latest T Mobile Update for the Pearl 8100 for their support site.
( You may have a problem if you have a really old prepaid number is it will not be recognized as a valid t- moblile number in the download section - use any T mobile number you know and download the latest update )

Run the the update, let it back up you preset settings and then run the BB DTM to finish the installation.

This will take 20 minutes in total for the install.

Your Pearl will restart and you will notice almost no difference expect the data service light is not on and not giving the stupid " data service rejected " message.

Reboot the pearl again and you will get the " T " and from there be able to get to T Zone and the net ...

This may have worked, however check your next billing statement carefully. You may be getting charged per use for the data despite how you got it to work. Just a word of caution.
 
data trafic should be charged to your prepaid plan.
If not instant, maybe once each 24h ?

This reminds me of back at the 90s where you could get free SMS messages sent when your prepaid card was empty.. but after some hours the system discovered that you where empty and blocks you..

Yeah that was quite awhile ago. You may have T zone access but youre full internet probably doesnt work. Most tmobile phones on prepaid offer t zones access to review your account, add minutes, etc. you are not going to have access to the rim server that may cause full functionality issues.
 
well... i did the same thing! i got a blackberry 8100 from t mobile and decided to use my ToGo sim card on it... and it worked fine... i just needed to update the phone, but that was all... recently i noticed t zones had disappeared and i took action and called t mobile and it turns out that if t zones disappears, it is a connection error... or something like that, and the recommended i go to a t mobile store and get a new sim card, beacuse the old one was not working any more. So thats what i did and now everything is prefectly fine. Incase this ever happens to anyone... try putting in a new sim card into the phone and if t zones reappears, then go to a t mobile store and get a new sim card. its FREE!! and they even transferr your old numbers into the new card!
