Well I paid for my Pearl by PayPal on Dec.4th but received it on Friday. Right now the phone is just a expensive paperweight. I was so excited to get it, and now it's just causing me problems. I don't want to part with this either, so I am also thinking of paying about 35 bucks to get it unlocked on Ebay.

ya im also in the same position cept for didnt get ripped off. i knew the phone wasnt unlocked but now i need to get it done and all the store out here are charginf like 150$. i heard if u contacted the phone provider they might be able to do it. also there are some people sellin unlocks on ebay

Well, why not invest in the software etc to unlock it?
Makes more sense to do it that way. At least to me being that i work in the wireless industry.
There's this though. If you unlock, none of the things like Picture Messaging, web browsing etc will work on the phone now. Since the software isn't compatible from network to network.

i have an unlocked tmo pearl on a cingular network - have had it since september and i have ZERO issues. everything on my phone works.

Alrighty guys! Yesterday, I purchased an unlocking code on Ebay for $37.50 US. I got it today, used it and it worked. My Pearl is now unlocked from T-Mobile. So I placed my Fido SIM card in and it works! Of course the data connection doesn't work though since Fido doesn't offer it. If anyone is wanting to unlock there T-Mobile Pearl here's the link to do so,

how does the unlocking work? the guy on ebay says he remotely unlocks it by imie number. how does he do that?

He probably has a code generator. He types your IMEI number in and gets a code for you to use.
Here I am a week later with my seller -- he says he put in a formal request with T-Mobile for the unlocking code (his DEALER tried unlocking before -- unsuccessfully) -- and he is waiting for their response, supposedly a "rush" order...
In the meantime, he has agreed to pay for the gsmphonesource.com unlock -- but Adam is gone until 1/3 -- so Happy #$%$# New Year!
Oh well, it sure is pretty and has a great backlight ...

BTW, when I went to input the code, it said that I had TEN TRIES to get it right, if anyone cares. Also, to my surprise, I was able to SEE my input.
