T Mobile Insurance - Anyone use it?

Red Flag

I signed up for 5.99 a month for insurance on my curve 8320. Curious if anyone has filed a claim and how their service was...Did they give you trouble? Did you have to send your phone in first, then they send you another phone after they receive the phone? Pros, cons?

I recommend i definately on your higher end phones. the way it works is if something happens to your phone you contact them and file a claim pay your deductible, and they will usually send the phone to you. the longest it would take for you to recieve your device would be about 3 days and thats if you filed the claim like friday night. if your phone wasn't stolen the usually request for you to ship the phone back to them, but thats after you recvieve your replacement. you can alsodo a warranty exchange through the insurance and instead of going through t-mobile you contact asurion and file a warranty exchange and not a claim,, its free, and they get the phone out to you right away. however, if you do go through the insurance company fora warranty exchange yo can't use t-mobile's warranty exchange unless you get another device. hope that answers some questions for you

I cant get TMO to replace a handset that is 4 months old that will not power on and the place I purchased it is no longer in bisiness TMO said the handset is not available and offered me NO other help or discounts on something els. This handset was NOT a Blackberry. For you 8320 I would ( as I did for my 8320) find a State Farm ins agent, you can go to their website and enter you state, they have a personal articles policy that will cover the 8320s demise for any reason.. fire flood theft etc in NJ it is $50 a yr .. I have seen it as low as $30 a yr in other states .

I have the 5.99 equipment protection on my pearl. Today, my pearl dove out of my pocket and into the toilet! I called tmobile to inquire about the insurance and they said for the pearl my deductible with asurion for a pearl (more for the curve) would be $110 and I would get a refurbished phone. The CSR then informed me that I could do an upgrade (got my phone 10/07) and get a brand new pearl for $118. I don't see the point in using the insurance! I'm taking it off the non-bb phones on my account.

Just thought I'd add my two cents - I don't think its worth paying $72 a year for something you may never end up using.

I had it on my phones for years and have yet to use it so I took it off last year. Your phone is covered under manufacture warranty for a year. I'm responsible with my phones and since I buy a new phone at least once a year, it was just money being given away to my provider. Any phone problems I've had fell under manufacturer warranty since it was defect and all you pay is the s/h charge.

I can see if the deductible was $50 (as it is with regular phones), but it's $110 and I have found used, good condition bb's on craigslist for almost the same price. Now between paying a deduction of $110 for a refurb phone (if you need to use insurance) plus the $72 spent on insurance for the year, I just don't see a point, especially if you know you're responsible with your phones. That $72 saved along with my sale of phone/accessories pays for half of a new phone outside of contract and it allows me to upgrade when I feel, not just when my contract is up. If I suffer some cosmetic damage that really bothers me and I wish to replace, there's plenty of tutorials and small part bb sites like cnn.

I guess insurance is a good bet for some, just not for me.

i've always had it, and have had to use it numerous times actually. i'd get it if i were you....

for anyone looking to buy a new phone, you should check out "protectcell" (.com). it's a couple cents cheaper that the tmo insurance per month and your first claim is only $40. they'll cover you for 2 years and any phone up to $700.

i've never been to the website, but i think that's it. haha.

is it possible to say your phone was "lost" pay your deductible and get a replacement phone? what would happen with the lost phone? the service would go out but put in a new sim and wouldnt it work again? or am i just missing the point

If you claim its lost anyone can find it and use it with their Sim that's what happened to my sister and she eventually found her phone and I got to use it no problems~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

my hubby lost a non blackberry phone in a mall parking lot insurance was on the phone we explained what happened and they shipping him a brand new phone and a sim card he just lost a 1gb memory card but it was replaced with no problems

The secondary markets (Ebay, Craiglist etc.) makes it very inexpensive to replace a BB, so I choose not to get the insurance. My slightly used BB 8800 cost me $120 on Ebay. I'm pretty conscientious about my phone, so I keep close tabs on it. I typically keep mine in my holster to prevent loss or damage.

On the other hand, if you are a very active person, who travels constantly, tends to drop and lose things, and would not like to search for a used or new BB, you might consider it. Take care.

Well I did get the insurance to play it safe. They did not tell me though that I would pay a deductible if i had to file a claim. Hm.

Question I have now is, say i drop it and it becomes defective. I file a claim. Do they require you to send the phone to whereever they tell me and when they receive the phone, they send me another one? Or do they just send me one and then I can send them mine?

So when they send you a replacement phone they send you a refurbished phone????!!!! Isn't that like inheriting someone else's problem? Ugh !!!
