T Mobile @ Home, anyone using this new service???

Does the new router work with your curve (UMA)? Does it have a ssid? How far are you able to go outside while still on the phone?

Haven't tried going outdoors yet (and it's raining now! will have to wait for that test!). With my old 5.8ghz vtech I was able to go outside and walk perhaps 30 or 40 ft from the house (down my driveway to the mailbox) before the signal broke up, and from what I'm reading (and from my impression based on in-house performance), I'm guessing this will be comparable if not better. I'll post back after trying this.

Re: UMA - I have an 8300, and never signed up yet for UMA since the signal at home has generally been fine. I may make the change to UMA once a 9xxx for T-Mobile comes out. But I've read up on this, and the router is positioned as an all-in-one replacement to support UMA, normal WiFi requirements (WEP/WPA/WPA2, b/g, etc) and your wired LAN as well as T-Mobile@Home land-line replacement.

4.5 days on this (T-Mobile@Home) and unfortunately I've lost service twice so far: each time, rebooting the router restored the blue light and phone service. Customer Care tells me that they've had a few other reports like this, and Tech Support had a 20 minute wait, so I haven't spoken with them yet. I suspect that another firmware upgrade for the router may address the problem - hoping for that, because I really want this to work!

EDIT: 3 days later: service hasn't dropped since I started this post 3 days ago. Not sure if T-Mobile is getting things better under control on their network, if it's a coincidence, or what... Been excellent for the past 3 days. Still waiting to see how stable this is.

Vinmont. That is definitely a router problem. I would actually just go back to the store and exchange it. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

I would love to sign up for this. For $10 a month, it's a steal. However I have DSL with AT&T and phone serivce. I called them the other day and they told me I need to have "phone service" in order to have DSL. Has anyone ran into this problem?

I also called TWC (Time Warner Cable). They told me $29.95 for the first 6 months, then it will go to $44.95 after for a 7MB connection (Internet only, no TV service). So now I am thinking about telling AT&T to byte me, and I'll get TWC's internet, then TMO's @ Home Service..

Check your firmwear and make sure you have the latest, but I have had this issue periodically since March. It now occurs less and less frequently, but I beleive it is a system problem..(during the beta I was working with the engineer team)...if replacing your router makes a difference be sure and let us know!

@ jonny / gary -

Maybe I'll try exchanging the router. I *did* check the firmware, and it's the latest version (I think it's 1.0.0.4). I suspect it might be something that could be addressed in firmware (maybe part of the code isn't sufficiently fault / timeout tolerant?). Since the service seems to work fine for 36 to 48 hours at a time, I didn't think it was the router itself, but I'm open to trying a different one. If they won't give a problem about it, I could exchange it at the T-Mobile retail store on Saturday morning.

I'll keep an eye on it between now and then and see what happens.

In the meantime, the extra 3 phones I ordered from VTech arrived, giving me a grand total of 5 now spread all around the house. Really want this to work!

You can get a dry loop or dsl direct through ATT. They don't like to advertise it because it's less money for them. You get a phone line but only for DSL. You cannot call out on it. I pay $27.99 a month, that's all.

Sorry, I am paying $28.99 a month not as I stated. You may want to check out this website. It has the phone numbers you need to call. I had a ATT landline and converted to DSL direct with no problems. Anyway here is the link to check out>http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Naked-ATT-DSL-Expands-89785

I have it and have a review here (last post)...

http://blackberryforums.rabroad.com/showthread.php?t=78983

Basically it works pretty well. I do bittorents though and when they are running sound quality sucks. I was told the speed wouldn't matter (1.5 down / 256k up). Not sure if its the bandwidth I am using or the fact torrents use UDP as well as TCP.. When I stop transfers all is good and I am happy. For now I am running torrents only while I am asleep as a workaround. Other than that I am happy. Anyone know of a better workaround?
