T-Mobile Dude Promises More 'G Series" Phones This Year

engadget mobile: In an interview with FierceWireless, T-Mobile USA's senior VP of engineering and operations (and newly-minted chairman of 3G Americas' board) Neville Ray has slipped a couple juicy morsels in the process of talking up his carrier's ongoing 3G rollout. Besides mentioning that T-Mobile wants to double its 3G footprint in 2009, Ray says that "we will be launching more G series phones and other products... in the coming weeks and months." If we had to guess, this probably (hopefully) has something to do with that HTC Sapphire we've seen floating around lately. What's more, you'll see T-Mobile start to ramp up peripheral support this year -- gotta monetize that multi-billion-dollar network somehow -- with a modem launch. All told, these guys still have a long way to catch up in the 3G race with Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint -- but if you want bleeding-edge Android stuff, looks like they'll continue to be your best bet for a while.

~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~ thanks for the tidbit Lava'. Unfortunately for me, I will soon be migrating over to ATT. I love tmo's rates and plans, but they just don't move fast enough on product development. I much rather switch to Att and get a 3G bold, than a 8900 with Edge (yawn).

Anyway, thanks again

We have G3 here. I've found the EDGE speed is fast enough. I have noticed 3G is a huge battery drain. Must people I know with 3G tend to turn it off. Edge vs. 3G would never be a deal maker or breaker for me.

i as a t-mobile rep and long time customer agree that some of our tactics with 3g have been a little slow but honestly with a lot of the major carriers running 3g there are a lot of locations where 3g runs just as fast as wifi because those carriers lack the support that with as many people on 3g using the service decreases the speed tremendously, but with the amount of open wifi netork it seems to be a little more stable. plus t-mobile is keeping themselves in less debt with their delay on 3g and gearing for 4g.

anyways....the "g" series could be one of t-mobile's saviours to redeem the floundring of the sidekick series. but the G1 has been a popular device. i don't mind it, just hope that android stays on top of its game, and t-mobile will have a winner
