So im moving to Holden, Ma and T-mobile has horrible coverage out there... i looked at the place and had ZERO signal.... my question is i know if they dont have coverage they are supposed to cancel you free of charge but can i cancel free of charge before i move or how does it go

My guess is that you'll have to take it up with T-Mobile and see what they allow for an area of no coverage.

Maybe one of our T-Mobile stacker/reps can give you an idea.

My question would be - How much time have you spent in the new area?

On a monthly basis, I travel to check on my Mom. When I'm there, there is NO TMO coverage; however, AT&T picks up and works fine. TMO's coverage stops ~80 miles before I get there. I've only ever had one issue and that is when TMO's coverage ends, and I'm on a call, it will drop the call. I can wait about 10 seconds, and then I'm up on AT&T and I can resume my call and all if fine!

I looked at the TMO map, and it shows "weak" in that area.

I check AT&T's coverage in that area, and it shows pretty good coverage! Even 3G, if you're in the right spot (with the right phone, obviously...) If you have your phone set to Automatic Mobile Network, it will switch automatically - assuming TMO has an agreement with the local AT&T system.

I can relate to your issue. Where I live, there is GPRS TMO service only. AT&T has EDGE. Makes is slow going on surfing and any other data activities. I can, at times, "trick" my phone to switch over to AT&T's service so that I can use EDGE when tethering my phone to my computer.

Also, for me, what really sucks - where I work, my phone shows SOS most of the day as there is AT&T service but not TMO. Those that I work with on AT&T use their phones all day. I can use my during lunch....

Good luck!

as long as you have an address with your name on it and there is no coverage there, you can fax that information into t-mobile and they will cancel your account at no charge.

If they have towers there and is little service they will tell you that they will put a trouble ticket out. I dont think they let you out of the contract if there are towers or loe service strength around

I had the same problem that wyy183 had visiting my Mom but without the AT&T towers. T-mo opened a trouble ticket for me 1 1/2 years ago and I haven't heard from them since. I tried to check on it a couple of times and they couldn't find it. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

nah i spend alot of time in the area actually... and i never have signal unless i go outside of the house and walk about 20 feet to the end of the driveway then i get enouph to make a call ... so i guess ill have to call when i move and hope for the best

I think that's going to be your best choice - then, at least, you'll have the actual conditions to report while you have them on the line. Good luck.

Have you tried (when in the new area) of doing a manual network setting and choosing AT&T? In my experience, I either get SOS or it'll go ahead and connect up. It's worth a try - especially if it works!!
