T-Mobile blocking Twitter SMS

I didn't see any other posts about this, but it's streaking through the web like wild-fire. T-Mobile is apparently blocking Twitter (a very popular SMS site). Emails have been flying all over the world and many are being sent to T-Mobile, including some (one from me!) to the T-Mobile CEO, Robert Dotson.

Check This Link and for more information, just do a google (or other search engine) search on Twitter blocked by T-Mobile.

interesting. I don't think this will last long since it is all over the 'net as much as it is. T-mobile (and other wireless providers) have been sued for blocking 3rd party services so hope they don't let it get to that point.

I've been having the problem for a few days now. I didn't think it was a TMO issue till I read some of the blog posts last night. I'm going to give them a call today and see if I can get some answers or at least register a complaint. Hopefully this wont last long.

Seriously? I've had Twitter SMS notifications off for the past day or so during my phone switch, so I hadn't noticed. How long has this been going on??

Edit -- okay, so it hasn't been happening for too long. I think now's as good a time as any to test Twitterberry.

I would really like to hope that someone at T-Mobile will realize that this issue has major implications. Many see it as the tip of the iceberg, with 3rd party services. I've already received approx. 30 emails from friends, about this matter.

That was quick. I got a message from Twitter Status a few minutes ago saying that T-Mobile works now. Tested it and it seems like the issue was resolved.

Twitter seems to be working properly again for Tmobile users. All my messages are going through no issues, and I get 90% of all my contact's updates, as is normal.

Apparently it was just a technical isssue. Here's the offial word from the Twitter blog:

I did receive an email back from T-Mobile, on Monday morning:

Dear Mr. XXXXXXXX:
My name is Marianne Maestas and I am with the Executive Customer Relations department of T-Mobile. I am contacting you on behalf of Mr. Robert Dotson in regards to the email that you sent him over the weekend.
Twitter users are welcome to stay connected through T-Mobile service. Rumors that T-Mobile blocks the service are false. T-Mobile confirmed with Twitter that there was a technical issue between the two companies’ systems that temporarily prevented some customers from utilizing the service this past weekend. That issue has since been resolved and the companies are working to prevent such incidents from re-occurring.
Should you have any further questions regarding this matter, please feel free to contact Customer Care at 800-937-8997. Thank you.

Executive Customer Relations Specialist,

I was very happy to receive this as it cleared up the issue for me. I also replied to this email, telling her how happy I have been with the T-Mobile Customer Service - I think it's the best.

Glad to hear that. While I do believe that Twitter is a step (or many ) in the wrong direction, and personally have no use for it, it would be highly inappropriate for T-Mobile to be blocking it. We do have the bad precedent of Comcast perverting bitTorrents . Two cheers for TMo!
