system restore error?

I tried doing a system restore, but it says there isn't enough disk space?! So I went to the start menu (using Vista, btw) and clicked "Computer" and I have two drives, apparently. One of them is OS (C:) and the other is RECOVERY (D:)

The first one says 279 GB free of 450 GB. The second says 2.68 MB free of 14.9 GB. Then I clicked a little help thing, and it said I needed like 300MB free on each drive, or something. So I think the problem is with the second one. But the problem is, I don't know what I should delete to free up space. I don't understand this...I just want to restore my computer back to an earlier point...Why is it so difficult to do even that?

oh and "0x80070070" is the error thing it gives me when it says there's not enough space to perform the system restore. If that means anything to any of you...
