System of a Down

Their lyrics are straightforward, and ridiculous.

Why don't presidents fight the war
Why do they always send the poor

Did anyone have difficulty decifering what they were trying to say here?

How about the Prison Song rant:

They're tryin' to build a prison
For you and me to live in

Once again, pretty straight forward.
They aren't even good lyrics.

I agree with whoever said they were like Playskool My First Political Band.
I'll say it again, if you want good politics in your music, I just can't find it in rock music. Rap is tenfold greater in my opinion when it comes to producing artists who can articulate a political message. Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, JMT. They all do it so much better than SOAD or RATM could ever do.
Country/Folk music also produces musicians who are just so much better at poltical music. Nu Metal is laughable, not political.

Nu-metal; use of turntables, industrial music, lyrics are rapped more often, guitar playing is more rhythmic based with an absent lead part, bass plays mostly root notes.... pretty much what I see in nu-metal.

Now to hear the true metalhead's definition; ****ing bull**** generic mainstreaming scene crap. No solos? **** THAT! Slayer FTW!!!!

System of a Down's earlier material I'd consider nu-metal.

And no, I don't like them. Used to, but I guess I just grew out of it. Serj's voice annoys me to no end, though.

Ok, I've just now gotten around to hearing Steal this album! and have discovered one of their best songs I believe, Innervision. Absolutely love the ominous guitars.

Ok, that is all. You may go now...

I honestly think that their first album is miles ahead of anything else they've done.

From there, I don't know. Toxicity is plagued with a terrible opening song(loathe the prison song), and I really don't see why Hypnotize/Mesmerize was released as two albums because they both are padded down with a lot of meh b-sides.

Steal this Album isn't bad, it's just universally considered sort of the one that a lot of people hate because it signifies System of a Down adopting a less "heavy" sound than the first two albums(albeit, Toxicity was already bridging into that direction, but not as much as Steal this Album is a way softer yet way more experimental/eclectic album).

I honestly like all their albums. But, from personal experience, talking with fans, I find that most people don't like the post-Toxicity material that much. Then again, I think that comes from close-mindedness because whether they're as effective or not with their later sound, it's definitely more sophisticated.

I heard they were gonna start some side projects.

And I personally think they're best album was their self titled System of a Down
Toxicity was just them when they reacher a certain peak in their career and were able to appeal to a larger audience

YES! I saw The Apex Theory in concert back in 2002 - when Topsy Turvy was released, I'm pretty sure. They were pretty solid live. Not very heavy, really, but interesting.

The video for Apossibly was entertaining, if I recall correctly. Or maybe I just liked it then - no idea.

Heh - anyway, saw System of a Down in concert that same day - it was Ozzfest 2002.

I love S.O.A.D i will go for them, but...i don't blame anyone for having dislikes for them, they're lyrics are quite stupid but serj tanakian ****in great vocals

I don't listen to either very much...I only listen to Soad when I absolutely have to (one of my frienRAB listening to them) But Korn I listen to every once in awhile when I need something alittle different from my usual banRAB.

But I'm going to have to say Korn...for the simple fact that he writes entirely about situations that have happened to him and he feels his lyrics when he sings...They have a true, true meaning.

Instrumentally...Korn...it's alot more interesting to get into, although soad does have their own distinct sound, and Korn just sounRAB alot like In Flames...I love In Flames...

So in conclusion, Korn wins in my opinion.

Yea, all their pre-last two albums were really good musically, lyrically, and vocally. they even had a decent political messege. now theyre just something im not really interested in.
