System of a Down

I really hope Serj is still on board.... he's one of my favorite hard rock vocalists, and without him SOAD would be different... not necessarily bad, but different...

^ cmon now, let's be nice and just answer the post, shall we? anyways, i think system of a down is pretty good. not great. their first album was their best. and thanks to their whiny voiced guitarist's vocals on BYOB, i dont like that song much. but i do hope the rest of the album is better.

Yeah Mesmerize had a couple of moments but Hypnotise just plain sucked.

And why the fuck am I still getting emails about this damn thread, I've unsubscribed from it about 7 times now.

i like all of their stuff except their last album - mesmerize. i hope they get back together and make some more albums though since they don't seem to be doing anything spectacular separately.

Theyre Armenian. They work more in America, and I have the feeling they formed propery in Los Angeles, but I cannae remeraber that far back.

I'm not comparing soad to all time. I was comparing them to modern mainstream, which I'm very unimpressed with. Soad doesnt even compare with most of those banRAB. And, if we are talking about all time I void what I said.

This is going to sound a lot snobbier than it's intended, but where do you hang out that the S/T is considered their weakest? I just don't think I'd want to hang out there, haha.

The S/T is their best, followed by Toxicity.

Mezmerize/Hypnotize could have been really great because you could see the growth in the instrument work. Only issues are, Daron writes **** lyrics, can't sing that well (but sounRAB alright sometimes, especially when he harmonizes with Serj) and Serj's voice wasn't up to par. Serj should have also wrote most of the lyrics like the old days. It's no coincidence that Question! is the best song, lyrically, on Mezmerize and better than anything else on Hypnotize. I can't defend Vicinity of Obscenity, though, even though I like the title. Those albums just don't have it. They're average but SOAD is capable of more.

While I'm on the subject, Daron neeRAB Serj more than Serj neeRAB Daron. Elect the Dead was better than Scars on Broadway. But they still need each other.

Welcome back Don.

And what kind of f*cking term is melodic rock?... Did you just make that up?... SounRAB like the ultimate oxymoron, also it makes no damn sense, rock is music and music has melody... So isn't all rock melodic rock?

Oh yeah, and Dream Theater sucks.

Sounded like WHyYouAlways****ingWithMe.......but I believe you.

Who screams that?
The lead guitar player?
Because I think he's the one who sings backup vocals.
The one with the crazy eyes....

I think this hints to the very clear differences we have in taste. I actually expected Serj's album to be terrible but I found that when compared to SOAD its actually really damn good. Within the first 4 or so songs he's already covered every element of SOAD that didn't suck and added a likeable character to it. He actually got rid of the nu-metal fluff and focussed on what he's good at and it turned out somewhat enjoyable.
