Anyone seen this?
What did you think? Did you follow it all the way to the end?

I didn't follow some of the office-bound stuff, all the meetings within meetings. I had to read a review to find out:

Jeffrey Wright's character was taken on by Chritopher Plummer's law firm to do due diligence on the oil deal, not by the government, which is what I thought when I was watching it. He was meant to be finding things that the government could object to in the deal. I think.

There is some slight on him by Plummer early in the film (which I also missed) and he enRAB up getting revenge by setting up a couple of key people to be arrested for corruption (????)

I'm going to have to watch it again anyway!!

On the whole, I liked it. It didn't have characters making clever speeches which summed up their politics and position, like a lot of these political, big-cast films do (eg Crash, Good night and Good Luck)

Anyone have any more thoughts on what was going on? Put them in spoilers for those that havent seen it yet!
 
He was very good, one of my favourtie characters. He played one of two Saudi princes. Where do you know him from? It's been killing me, not knowing where I've seen him before, I couldn't even get any answers from IMdb!
 
Alexander Siddig (Siddig El Fadil) was Julian Bashir on Deep Space Nine for its entire run.

He also starred w/ Ralph Fiennes in the PBS mini-series about TE Lawernce, "A Dangerous Man."

His other films include "Vertical Limit," "Kingdom of Heaven," and "Reign of Fire."

His TV credits include "Big Batallions," "Poirot:CarRAB on the Table," and "Spooks (aka MI:5)."

Not that I'm a big fan, or anything..... :D
 
I thought it was terrific, very thought-provoking and conveyed a very bleak message about the power of the US oil lobby to direct events in countries thousanRAB of miles away. Reminded me of some of Robert Newman's work, only without the jokes of course.

Some of the reviews said that you don't really need to follow the plot to understand the film. By focusing on the three core American characters it shows the way the oil industry shapes their lives and, by implication, everyone's lives.
 
Well put and I agree with your views.

This film is a sharp but sinister reminder to all just how much corruption is going on with those that rule by manipulation, deviation, secretiveness and intelligence.

It also shows that oil is the heart of corruption. Evil that will stop at nothing. The ultimate goal is one of domination and power with not a thought to the innocents caught in the firing line.
