Syncing Droid with Google calendar

I just got the Motorola Android from Verizon Wireless. When I first got it, I registered my gmail account: [email protected]. A few days later I went out and got the premium google apps. So now google hosts [email protected].

I can sync contacts and email from the @myprivatedomain.com without trouble, but syncing the calendar isn't an option on the droid. It IS an option when I look at the syncing options for [email protected]. I disabled the calendar sync for [email protected] and went back to see if syncing the calendar became an option for [email protected]. No dice. Still not an option.

I tried deleting the [email protected] account completely since I won't be using it any longer. The trouble there is that the only way to remove this account is to reset the phone to its default state entirely. I'd like to avoid that if I can.

What are your thoughts on how I can resolve this issue?

Unfortunately the Google apps service isn't a proper Google account. I use Google apps for email on my domain so I had this problem too. You can't use the login details for a number of services that require a Google account. In fact, when I tried using it with my G1 several months ago it didn't work at all, so I was surprised you got it to work even with contacts. Perhaps things have moved on since then though.

If I recall correctly, you can remove the Google account details on your phone without doing a wipe or rooting. Try going to:

Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications... Then from here do the following three in order:
Google Mail -> Clear data
Google Mail Storage -> Clear data
Google Apps -> Clear data

Then run the GMail app and it will ask you for your login details again.

I'd be curious to know if you can use your Google apps account for the main phone login, contacts, and calendar after this. Come back and let me know.
