Sync crashes with new XP user

Hello all...

Just switched from a Mac to a new XP laptop. Installed Palm desktop and everything synced sweetly.

However, I was getting used to all these XP users etc and seemed to delete the 1st one I had. Anyway, I created a new user in X and thought I'd stick with that - yet even with numerous Palm desktop uninstalls and reinstalls it crashes 5 seconds into the synpc process. In fact it the Hotsync window closes and the program stiops - no error message or anything - except in the handheld that says it lost connection with the desktop etc.

I just don't know what to do - will this mean i'll have to switch back to my onld Mac for desktop work or am I in need of finding a file I need to delete or somehting?

Any help from you guys would be much appreciated. Especially aftre telling me so much hhow wonderful Windows PCs are!!!

;-)

If the new laptop is exceptionally fast, slow down the sync manager. Go into HotSync setup and be certain to set if from Fast As Possible to 152k or slower. Also, turn off network sync if it's checked and have only USB sync selected.

If I had a dollar for everyone of my "fixes" I'd be a very rich man.....glad to help.

BTW, the speed issue and USB recommendations are good just about all the time now. Even my T5 will "hang" on my new desktop because the processor of the PC is so much faster and the USB manager will "time out" the connection because it's not getting a fast enough response.

By slowing down the USB manager - forces the PC to slow down - not the Palm device.

Also - if it's a Toshiba laptop - they are notorious about under powering their USB ports so if you end up using a docking station/port replicator you will also get similar errors.
