Symptoms of Anxiety? before Fusion

I go for my fusion one week from tomorrow, April 7th, and for almost a week now I have been feeling awful, and I am wondering if these are symptoms of anxiety.
I am nausiated, have thrown up a few times, cannot sleep, racing heart, and am having severe headaches.
I have never had surgery before, although I did have my wisdom teeth out and a hematoma repair, but I have never been put under. So needless to say I am scared to death of a fusion, being that it is a pretty major surgery.

Do these sound like anxiety symptoms?

Yea, I hae alot of anxiety too, and I was very grouchy, I think part from stress knowing I was going for surgery, and the other part from all the pains due to my back.

Let the doctor know tomorrow and maybe they can put you on something to take to help, as you have a week to go still, and sometimes when you get to the hospital, after they put in your IV for you, they MAY give you a sedative to calm your nerves if you discuss with your doctor prior. I had read of peeps getting that done to help them the morning of.

It's all normal, but, I undersand for sure. I had heart palpitations, waves of just stress and thinking toooo much on everything, crying bouts, headaches, not sleeping, and just wanting to cancel every day even though I was barely walking at all and had the most severe limp.

I'm glad I did do it though and have the surgery, really.

Thanks Rose,

How are you? Sorry I have not been on the boarRAB much, I have not been well. I have been thinking about you though...

Another sleepless night. The pain is just incredible, as is the pins and needles I have been experiencing lately. My feet almost itch. I am also getting this horrible pressure going down my left leg.

Surgery is so scary, but I know I HAVE to do this. If I don't, I will have a much more difficult road ahead of me. I am glad that you are glad you had the surgery. I am trying to keep positive thoughts.

I just typed you a whole big thing and my computer just changed screens and I lost it :(

grrr.

I'm glad you posted, I was thinking of you alot and knew your date was coming soon.

Ask dr tomorrow about something to calm your nerves, or even just sleeping pills, and about if you are anxious the day of surgery, if they can give you something in your IV.

I posted my 2 week I will bump it up for you to read. I am 3 weeks now and notice a difference after every week, whether little things or not, it's still improvement! I did my steps 2x, (I have 4 flights to the outside), but at least I can do them to an extent now and don't feel so jailbound in home now. I've spent the past 8 months litereally on my back in bed, for 90% of this time.

I am glad I did it, truly. Remeraber to have hubby check the local drug store to see where he can find a toilet riser and cane if you need it, (I got mine at CVS) I didn't think I'd need them when I got home but I surely did. I also got, you'll LOVE my sharing this- flushable wipes. YUP. You don't want to be reaching more than you haveto for a BM so, they work extremely well, just make sure they're flushable ones. I'm glad I got those.

When you get your surgery you will meet with the anesthesiologist and let him/her know morphine doesn't work well on your pain, and they will give you prob dilaudid that works very well for pain. You may wind up on that anyway, but why take chances.

When they put the IV in your arm, watch and be sure they don't put it where your arm benRAB, they're not supposedto but thats what they did on my first surgery, and what a PAIN to try and log roll or use your arms to get up. So get it in your forearm. I MADE SURE this time with this surgery.

I will bump up my 2 week post op at the dr post for you to read too. And remeraber, I have a laptop with wireless modem, that's why I post alot, I would not be on the computer so much if I had to sit at a desk.

I know it's hard, but very soon you're going to be on a much easier road, the first 2 weeks are hard on some days, but even with that you notice the improvement, I'm at 3 weeks and it's better than 2 weeks. My nerves down my legs still hurt if I walk or am up alot, and I'm still taking percocet every 4 hrs. Even through the middle of the night mostly, but, that's better than where I was and I know it won't last too long and soon the nerve will heal for me, I just hope I don't have alot of permanent damage from how I got hurt to begin with, only time can tell for me.

I did have the pressure that you posted about too, almost like somethings just going to give in your back or leg it gets so extreme, and that faded for me after surgery too, I had one to two bouts of it after, then it went away.

Well I am glad to see you again, you've been on my mind, and don't forget to ask DR for something for your nerves, and let him know how you can't sleep too.

Take care, you'll be doing better soon!!! Just try to see the light at the end of the tunnel, it's there.
