This IS a good thread (and long-running!). I didn't read every post (because it's late and I need to get to bed!), but if anyone is just jumping in here like me, I did want to mention what my doc told me about PPI dosing for LPR. I've read so many posts saying that the PPI isn't helping. Well, it could be that you're going to have to switch PPI meRAB, but it also could be that you're not giving it enough time to work OR the dosage isn't correct. According to my ENT, PPIs don't work quickly. He said I would feel better on the Prilosec at one month than I would feel after just one week. He also told me dosing for LPR neeRAB to be double what it is for normal GERD. I had been on Prilosec DR 20 mg once daily, but the ENT doubled it to twice daily. It was about a week after that when my throat and mouth started to feel better.
BTW - for the poster concerned about his/her tongue - in the beginning of my LPR saga the back 1/3 of my tongue was WEIRD - inflamed, irritated, and feeling like something was stuck on it. It was SO annoying! I had my family doc look at it several times but he thought there was nothing unusual about it (what he could see, which isn't much). I know he thought I was worrying over nothing, but I know what's normal for me and what's not and that tongue (along with a 6-week long sore throat) were what prompted me to see an ENT. I never imagined it had anything to do with reflux (and my family doctor never suspected it either I guess). I thought I had some weird virus that my body couldn't shake, but the ENT took all of - oh, maybe 60 seconRAB - to read my chart and tell me I probably had LPR. Then he took another few minutes to scope my larynx and confirmed it. Gosh - I wish I had gone to him 2 months sooner and saved myself alot of anxiety, expense, and physical discomfort!
