swollen lymph nodes

when talking to my son 5 days ago i noticed a large lump on his neck and he said he noticed it too,it looks like an adams apple on the side of his neck!!! it very large like the size of a small egg!!i took him to the dr and the lump is a very swollen lymph node....dr gave him some antibiotics and blood work which hasnt come back yet. he showed no other signs of infection until tonight he is complaing of an awful sore throat and said he is a bit light headed...the lump seems to have gotten bigger since seeing the dr 4 days ago! he did check him over and seemed to have no answer yet, should i be concerned?
 
From one mom to another, we always worry about our kids no matter how old they get! You did the right thing to take your son to the doctor as soon as you noticed the problem. Lymph nodes swell when the body is trying to fight off an infection and it sounds like he must have some sort of infection with the sore throat. I'm sure they did a test for mono? There are all sorts of things that can cause a lymph node to react, even something as simple as an insect bite, sinus problems due to allergies, dental problems. Try not to jump to any conclusions--sounds like your doctor is on top of the situation. Let us know!

my sons results came back and he has mono...what my husband didnt tell me was that the dr had told him it was either that or cancer but hubby didnt want to worry me so he didnt say anything...thank God he is ok.
