Swithching from a PC to an iMac any precautions? reccomendations?

My family is getting a new iMac 24 inch soon(not ordered yet) with 4 gb RAM ,500gb hard disc and 3.06 GhZ Proccesor , however i have no special knowledge on macs , i will have a wireless mouse and keyboard , I will also get the Microsoft office for mac student edition 2008. Is there any thing i should look out for, do something,learn something just general comments.

ps:the computer will not be used for games
