Switching Verizon Phones?

I know that I can activate phones online through my Verizon account, however I was wondering if it was possible to switch between my old phone (LG VX8600) and my new one (LG Versa) without having any sort of extra charge for changing my phone. For example, if I'm going on a trip where my phone can possibly be damaged, I'd much rather it be the old one. Will changing the ESN back and forth result in charges to my account? The plans would stay the same each time.
 
no they will not charge you unless you go into the store. you can also call *228 from the new phone and follow the prompts. it takes about 2 minutes. i did this a lot when i was with vzw. i went through phones like water
 
nope they should stay the same and if it did change you would get some kind of order and option confirmation screen that will show $$$$ signs before you can submit so full disclosure is given just read what you see on your screen.
