Switching to Verizon; which phone to get?

It's 2010 and I'm rather late in keeping up with technology. I've never owned a phone that has a keyboard, or the ability to surf the web. What phone do you guys recommend (with Verizon) that will allow me to:

- Check email on Google Apps
- Check other email accounts
- Easiest to type on
