Switching to InPulse

My contract with Verizon Wireless is up. I want to switch to Verizon pay as you go, by getting a new phone at Target and buy some time there, also.

What I can't find out is, will Verizon let me port the old number to the new Paygo phone. If so, how do I go about doing this.

(I know they are required to relinquish your number when you change carriers, but I can find nothing that says they are required when you switch within Verizon to a different type plan)

Thanks

Yeah I think you can do this. I would suggest getting your new phone at target. Then when you can port your number after the fact. A call to verizon should take care of this.

I went ahead and bought the phone at Target. The 1st page of the manual had a phone # to call "if you want to keep your old number".
I spent 40 minutes with 4 different people at Verizon, none of whom could figure out how to port the old number to the new phone. Only one person there even understood what I wanted to accomplish, but she couldn't get whatever software she was using to allow the transfer to take place.

So I'll return the phone, and try with ATT...maybe they will know what they're doing.

Ha! I went to AT&T's Go phone site. Porting the old number to a new Go phone is part of the online ordering. Took all of about 5 minutes.

Verizon is retarded.

Tis a shame that you dealt with people who couldn't help you out. Not everyone will have a good experience. Although I would have suggested to you that what you did with ATT you should have done on Verizon as well (went to the website instead of Target).

Best of luck.

I take back that "retarded" comment. AT&T turned out to be just as bad. All the info I provided to them online was for naught. I received a phone that could not even be activated. I spent a half hour on a landline, being shuffled amongst representatives, until one of them connected me to "the porting department".

That finally got me someone who knew what to do. What a pain!

Well all in all I am glad that you got what you set out to do. Hope ATT works well for you. Sometimes you have to dig through the crap to find the gold.

In my short time with verizon I have found that sites like this are invaluable. Almost every time I have wanted to do something with my account (tweak monthly minutes, data services, user permissions, or even pay my bill) I have had to talk the verizon rep through the process and tell them where to look, what to select, and then have to double check the work. Now I love the service, but WAY to often I know more about how to use their system than they do

I actually have been quite happy with inpulse. And I absolutely hated prepaid when I did it many years ago with T Mobile. But at first I had one of the generic phones from Verizon, but now I moved my way up to an LG Chocolate and while it still isn't near the best, it gets the job done a lot better. And the service itself does let me fully utilize my phone to a surprising extent. Hell, it let me move the old number to the new phone in about 4 minutes on an automated system with no issues at all.

I think it depends on a lot of factors, but when you do find something that works, should probably try and stick with it. But at the same time, it would've been pretty sweet to have been able to get a contract with Verizon instead.

Just some food for thought and a comparative testimony.
