Switching Sim Cards In Phones??

I have a i30sx and I'm wondering if I buy a newer Nextel phone (off ebay for example), like a i275 or a i850 if I can take the Sim Card out of my i30sx and put it in a newer phone and have my service/features work? Or is this something that would require me to take my phone into a Nextel store and have them do it?
Or is it as simple as just switching the Sim Card?

I've been wondering about this for awhile now.

it can be just as simple as doing the swap yourself. but you wont be able to use all functions that are available with the sim card that goes with the phone. so yes you can use your old sim with a new phone, but i recommend getting a new sim card as well.....

Is there anyway to transfer over my service data from one sim card to the other?, without having to take my phone into a Nextel store?
To get a newer phone they wanted me to sign a new contract, thats why I'm trying to switch phones without going into a Nextel store.
