I'm thinking about closing my account with tracfone and getting a monthly plan with tmobile. I would really like to keep my phone number and would like to get some feedback from people who have done this before. I know its called number porting or something like that, but I'm not sure how it actually works. Do I call tracfone first and tell them I'm switching carriers or talk to tmobile about it when I set up an account with them? How long does the process take? Another thing, I have no idea what information tracfone has on my account because I got the phone about three years ago and I activated it over the phone. What information will tmobile be requesting from tracfone to verify that I actually own my current phone number?
