Switching Conduits

Hi all, Great forum. I have a Palm TX. I liked it so much I told my wife "you gotta have one!"
I originally installed the palm desktop and palm desktop conduit. After reading in several threads that this can be done (sharing calendar and contacts using Outlook) I want to switch conduits over to Outlook.
What are the steps for this. Do I need to uninstall hotsync on the palm?
I am also planning to switch my desktop PC, so I will be installing the PC software fresh on a new system.
Also: It was fairly easy to set up versamail for my email account. If we set up an email account on the Outlook application, will this overwrite my email account on the Palm? Can each of us still have separate versamail accounts on the Palm's AND an Outlook email account?
Thanks - Ray

To install the conduits for Outlook - you'll need to simply insert the installation disc for the TX and then it should have an option on it to "change conduits" or something of that matter. I don't have the TX but that's how it's been done on the T5 and Treo 650 is by a reinstallation of the software and selecting that option to change.

My suggestion to you though, especially if you are running two users as you describe, is to purchase Pocket Mirror Pro XT from www.chapura.com.

Chapura wrote the original Outlook conduits nearly 10 years ago and Palm dropped them when the T3 came out. Palm's Outlook conduits are worthless compared to the those from Chapura.

Ok, now to the email portion: In order to use the mult-function of Outlook's calendar sharing etc - you must both use the same Outlook profile which means that you'd be able to see her email and vice versa. You can have multiple email accounts in Outlook and you can set up the up individually, I believe to go to separate Versamail accounts but I don't know of anyway to secure them independently.

Someone else might be able to answer that last issue better as though I have never set up two users using one Outlook account although I have set Outlook with more than one email account to my Versamail account.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that Chapura was original programmer for conduits. I'm giving Key Suite a good study right now.
When we finally do switch over, will any of the Palm Desktop features be available. Are we still able to manage media files, data files through the Palm Desktop or does it not function anymore?
Will the contact and calendar info (all that is available) be mirrored on the Palm Desktop or is it just blanked out completely and moved to Outlook?
just want to make sure this is the right choice.
Thanks again.

Only the PIM data conduits change - calendar, contacts, memos, tasks - all other conduits will remain and as such you still will need to run those things: media, notepad and quick install etc from the Palm desktop.

Key Suite is a good program but realize that it adds it's own databases to the Palm and as such you've got more overhead since the native apps are now blank. And I don't know if you can have two users sharing the same Key Suite data.....you'll have to have two unique user names for each TX - if you don't have unique user names - well I won't be responsible for your suicide when you discover those headaches.
