Switching 8300 to T-Mobile Network - any issues???

I bought an 8300 and will receive it within a couple of days. I'm going to get it unlocked and after checking the T-Mobile site, learned they don't have any software downloads that support the 8300. I downloaded the latest OS from AT&T (v. 4.2.2.103) and am also using the most current desktop system.

This is my question: Assuming the 8300 is unlocked, can I install my T-Mobile SIM card, register the 8300 with the network, push my service books and be good to go?

I did a search, but couldn't find any related current threads.
 
It should not be an issue. I have t-mobile and have use BB OSs from other providers all the time, as long as it is for the device, so your unlocked 8300 should be ok on T-mobile's NW.

You shouldn't have a problem unlocking and using ANY SIM card you want in the phone. I started with an unlocked O2 (European provider) Pearl and put a French SIM card to use while I was in France last Sept. I've used other SIM cards in it but, long story short I'm still using it on T-Mobile flex-pay plan w/o contract.

One issue for me: the Pearl literally stopped working one day for no apparent reason with a no coverage indcator everywhere I went. The solution was to go to the O2 web site and download their latest software for the Pearl - thanks to the BB cust service rep who discovered this for me. I was unable to download software from T-Mobile where I had an account at the time. With a domestic (T-Mo or AT&T, etc.) phone that may not be a problem. Anyway, you can use an unlocked handset with any GMS SIM card w/o problems as far as I know.

jblackfish - Thanks for the info. You can learn anything about Blackberry on this site! I don't plan on doing nearly as much traveling as you have, but having an unlocked phone has a lot of advantages. It also bumps the price up and little when you get ready to sell it.

nwobido1- You can unlock most (but not all) blackberry models, but you have to pay a service for the code. The codes are specific to your phone only; no one else's code will work in your phone. I get my codes from sellers on eBay. Go to eBay and type in the search box: unlock blackberry 7290. You'll find that they are as cheap as $8.95, for your model. You have to give them your IMEI and the service you are locked to.

Once you have the code and instructions they give you, you enter the code into your phone - it's that easy. The only catch is, a very small percentage of Blackberry units were not entered into the database that the code generators use. In that case, you are pretty much out of luck, but they do refund your money (make sure this is stated in their ad).

I bought an 8800 on eBay, with the intent to unlock it. I couldn't get a code and was refunded my money. I've listed it on eBay now and just purchased an 8300, which is why I started this thread. Hopefully I'll be able to unlock it, when it arrives.
