Switches and connection 9200 and 3100 together

Hey all,

Well I've been browsing these forums trying to find an answer to my question, but I don't quite understand everything entirely.

Here's how it goes:

We previously had only a 3100, and we just got another account for HD, and we've got the 9200.

The tech installed the following:

Dual LNBF for 91 and 82 on the dish - All 4 Connections from LNBs are connected to the inputs of a SW44

Two of the outputs of SW44 go into our 9200 (one of which goes through a Power Inverter)

The other two outputs are not used.

Now, I'm trying to figure out how we can connect our 3100 from the remaining two outputs of the SW44.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, since I'm not too clear on what signals need to be combined if any and through what switches.

just take one of the other outputs of the sw44 direct to the 3100 and run a check switch - nothing else required
 
Really? That's all there is to it? So the two outputs don't have to be combined or anything using a SW21?

I guess I'm not sure I understand what exactly a SW44 does in that case. It was my understanding that each of the outputs corresponded to a satellite, so either 82 A and B, and 91 A and B.

I guess that's not the case... if someone could quickly explain what exactly is going on in the SW44 that'd be much appreciated.

The 9200 has two tuners, so you need to run two lines from the SW44 to it. The 3100 has only one tuner, so it needs only one line. You could feed another single tuner receiver from the fourth output if you wanted.

The SW44 combines signals from 82 & 91 to give you 4 combined outputs.

An SW21 wil take 82 & 91 and give only one output.

Battscrew is quite correct that all you need is another line from the SW44 for the 3100. If you had the 9200 actually replace the 3100 then the Technician would have only had to run 1 additional line for it to work. If you had reqested, at the same time that he "re-locate" the 3100 to another room, you would have seen an aditional charge of $50 on the work order but because this is the first time you have had reception from 82 (I an guessing at this part), then you would have been entitled to that amount and the $125 9200 installation fee refunded as a programming credit.

Call and tell them that you want the 3100 hooked up and that it was not "re-located" at the time of the 9200 installation, you should get it done under warranty.

The advice given is quite correct. The 3100 would have been connected for another $50 (basic installation of the 9200 is covered but extra receivers are $50 each.) Not sure about the call back. It might cost more than $50. Just run an RG6 to the 3100 and don't forget to do a "Check Switch." :cool:
 
He should be covered, especially if he is still within the 10 Day Opt Out window. That is yet another Form that exists but not too many at Express Vu want it leaving behind by Techs......lol

Just say that they were misled by a CSR into thinking they did not get it relocated and I feel sure it would be done within warranty.

And You are quite right, the Check Switch is very important......Good Point..
 
Finally had some time to get everything wired up, and now both receivers are up and running.
