Switchblade Romance (Haute Tension)

Really enjoyed this. It's was also a pleasure to be in the presence of Giannetto De Rossi's make-up effects again!

I felt really short-changed at the revelation though (although I wasn't at all surprised)... until I re-watched the first scene again:

When the opening line of the movie indicates the story is being dictated from the mind of a mad-woman....

I'm not saying it's still not a cop-out... I'm just willing to suspend my disbelief with the reasoning behind the apparent plot-holes.

I'll have to rewatch it to see what you mean, but I agree it's quite a good film.

The first part of the film, in the farmhouse, really did have me on the edge of my seat, the tension was tremendous.

The plot holes did bother me a bit though, like
who was driving the van when both women were in the back??

She was never in the back of the van. In her re-telling of the story she placed herself in the back of the van as an anti-psychotic, denial device.

If you can bring yourself to suspend your disbelief (and work from the basis of the opening line) it's possible. I'll maybe change my mind after a second viewing ;-)

I wouldn't call it frightening, but it is a good film.

However, the O.T.T violence at the end just make it turn into parody at that point for me personally.

Just watched this, strange film, full of massive plotholes but very raw and gory, I enjoyed it but just kept going over the plotholes afterwarRAB and saying how was that possible etc etc, I didn't guess the twist though!

I remember seeing 'Switchblade Romance' mentioned on the guide thinking it was a new film I hadn't seen, ended up recording it and was annoyed when I realised it was Haute Tension... Film Four randomly use original names for some films and English alternatives for others, which is slightly annoying.

From what I remember, the main problem with this film is Luc Besson meddled with it to make it more populist thereby adding a lot of the plot holes.

Switchblade Romance is an awful title for it, but I really like Haute Tension, saw the film about 3 years ago, need to watch it again, fabulous film. The director's version/remake of The Hills Have Eyes is excellent too, way better than the original Craven one imo.

But yeah, it was great to see the Lucio Fulci's make up guy working again :)
