Switch to older Graffiti?

I had an m515 for years and upgraded to a TX a few weeks ago. Everything is better, except for Graffiti2. Several frequently-used letters need more than 1 stroke (T, I, K, etc.) and the software seems slower to recognize what you write. Is there any way to switch back to the older version?

I agree 100% with you. To many of us, including myself, who have got used to the original Graffiti, Graffiti 2 is simply problematic.

"...So you bought a new Palm OS PDA only to find out that Graffiti 2 is irritating the crap out of you. Wouldn't it be great to replace the Graffiti 2 multi-stroke characters with those classic unistroke ones from Graffiti? .."

Good news. You can do something to get the original Graffiti back. I've done it and is using the original Graffiti 100% of the time.

If the beaming solution doesn't work for you per nordin's great tip - there's a link I found by Googling the file, at another link; first the "caution," and then I'll give you the link! Be careful and read the instructions (I took the liberty of downloading and reading it)!!

here is the warning from the file download :

"**WARNING**
DO NOT INSTALL THE INCLUDED FILES DIRECTLY ONTO YOUR PALM! DOING SO WILL RESULT IN YOUR PALM CRASHING, AND YOU WILL BE FORCED TO Perform A HARD RESET OF YOUR HANDHELD. READ BELOW FOR INSTRUCTIONS.

This method will not work on any handheld that uses NVFS, including the Treo650, Tungsten|T5, and Tungsten|E2."

That would indicate to me that the TX wouldn't work either since it's also NVFS, and yet nordin apparently made it work. Hmm . . . OK, the link . . .

You're forewarned; I'm posting the link rather than just attaching the zip here, because I would want anyone to read the thing carefully or you will have to hard reset the handheld. There is the beaming method, and then COPYING from an SD Card (where the files are initially installed, NOT the handheld). My solution in lieu of this risk would be TealScript, which allows any sort of graffiti strokes you want for any letter/number/punctuation, plus macros you can design. You can doctor it up to use the best of Graffiti 1 AND Graffiti 2, plus your own custom strokes.

Good luck with it and take care/ P

I havd also put Graffiti one on my TX and it worked just fine. I never used graffiti much so learning G2 was simple and I prefer G2 but G1 worked fine on my TX.

Errr... there's nothing great about the tip ..:) I put the response in quite a haste, and did not quite catch the beaming part.

I now remember what I did to put back Graffiti1 on my PDA - I copied the two Graffiti prc files from computer to an SD card, and use a file utility similar to Filez to copy the two files from card to RAM.

Needless to say, it's always advisable to do a complete backup of your applications and data, before you attempt to do anything like this.

Good luck.

I have never had a problem w/G2. Somewhere I found a list of single strokes for all of the double stroke letters, and it was far faster than G1. at least to me. However, I use almost entirely a DIA Keyboard that includes the QWERTY keyboard and a 10 key numerical pad all within the confines of the original keyboard section. Primarily, however, when I have a lot of data to enter I either do it on the PC and sync. or I am especially fond of TapSmart-KeyLink from MobilityWare. Using it you get live synchronization between the PC screen and the Tx in both places. You can enter on the PC, Graffitti, or keyboard on the Tx interchangeably and live. I am at work and dont recall how much it cost, but it is worth every penny to me. No matter how good you get at Graffitti or Palm keyboard, nothing approaches the speed on a PC keyboard, thus my choices above. Either, Type on the PC and hotsync, or use TS-KL and enter it live on both.

I forwarded the message to my home email, unfortunately I am at work right now and it is 0608 Central Time US. I leave in 20mins, and I will probably go to sleep not long after I get home (hopefully not while I am driving home). I will research. Never mind, I just found it. It is the Graffiti Reference Card that came with the Tx. It was in my wallet. I will scan it and send it to the forum or PM you if I cant send it to the website. There is no symbol or letter that takes more than a single stroke, except for the Caps and Shift and Extended shift strokes used with the others. It was easy to learn. I will scan it and send as soon as I can. If not look in the box that came with your Palm. It is called "Using Graffiti Software" and folds into a business card sized card which fits your wallet (like mine did). I have also written on it some alternate strokes that were easier for me to learn than the originals. Hope this willl help. Be patient, in case I fall asleep first. If so I will send it this afternoon for sure.

Thanks very much for those. Maybe I'm missing something, but that looks exactly like the original Graffiti to me, especially things like 'tap once for punctuaution shift' which I was fairly sure just didn't work on a G2 device - you get a full stop instead. I don't have my palm handy right now (it's an E2) but I'll try later. Do these really work on the T|X?

Cheers,

Ian.

I installed G1 on my T5 and it worked for almost a year without problems. I backed up the zip of both G1 files on the computer. Now I crashed for some reason woth hard reset and I foud out that it s not possible to install the G1 files again. Graffiti_Library_en US.prc is ok to copy and evet to reset but Graffiti_Library.prc hangs the palm during the reset. The link in PalmTeal Lovers massage is blind. Please anyone, post the files - my is probably corrupted/
