Switch phones on verizon

I have a verizon wireless voyager (V Cast Multimedia Phone w Touch Screen by LG).

I want to switch to a verizon wireless LG (VX5500).

It'll cost between $150 and $200 if I do this through verizon. My question: if I buy, on the net, an LG VX5500, can I just switch the simm card?

Thanks.

moved this to verizon and renamed

yes you can - but it's not a sim card, you'll just program the new phone by calling *228

With Verizon Wireless, they never charge you an activation or initiation fee for switching phones if you do it using a method you do on your own. That would include online or *228 option 3.

Online is the most reliable. Using *228 may have issues (or will have issues) if you're switching from one phone to another phone if the two phones don't have identical features.

For example, I cannot switch from my Versa to my Voyager using *228 because there is Over the air firmware updates on the versa while the Voyager doesn't. It may also have something to do with VCAST Mobile TV on the Voyager while the Versa doesn't have it. Online usually always works.

If it ever doesn't work, customer service sees a note on your account that you attempted to do a switch but was unsuccessful. They'll then perform it for free.

If customer service is who you originally try and do it through, they'll be able to charge up to $25...you can sometimes get it waived though.
