Anyone telling me to consult my NCO Staff obviously is not familiar with Reserve. Its damn near impossible and not reliable off drill dates
Been in the Texas Army National Guard for 2 years.
I deploy In 2 months.
When I am done with deployment Can I transfer to ACTIVE ARMY,
Rank PFC, but I make E-4 in 1 month
21 B - combat engineer

IF SO CAN I GET A SCHOOL IN LIKE RANGER OR SPECIAL FORCES.

I am in the best shape of my life and for the past few years have been full of motivation and spirit. I wish to see if I have what it takes to be part of those types of units?

Basically, when I transfer can I get a slot in certain schools?????

Thanks

So far I agree with alexander, everything he said was true.

You have several ways.

For Special Forces

1. Go to :

http://www.bragg.army.mil/sorb/SORB_SPECIALFORCES_EARNING.html

2. or call (910) 432-1818

for Rangers.

3. Contact.

Non-Commissioned Officers and Enlisted Soldiers should contact the Ranger LNO at commercial (703) 325-5566, DSN 221-5566, Regimental Recruiting Team at commercial (706) 545-5124, DSN 835-5124 or email at [email protected].

If sending email include the following information: Full Name (Last, First, MI), SSN, Rank, MOS, Current Duty Location and time on Station. This information will expedite a response from the recruiting team.

are you up for reenlistment when you get back from deployment (less than 1.5 years left)? if not then your CoC will ahve to release you. not sure if you'll have enough rank to try out for SF, from what i remember you need to be E-4P and when you transfer to active duty from NG you lose rank (you might think its not fair but think of it this way: if you were in for 2 years and only did 1 weekend a month 2 weeks a year, thats only 76 days of military experience...a soldier in active duty would have that much experience in less than 10 weeks, so how can you really outrank somone that has more experience then you do?)
you can try out for rangers, when you switch you'll need to get RIP in your contract. 21Bs arent in the normal ranger bats, they're in the RSTB.

btw you wont get treated as your rank (unless its private) coming from NG to active duty...especially in the combat arms MOSs. there was a e-5 in my unit who was a 88M in the NG before switching to 11B active....all of the other NCOs treated him like he was a private. which honestly experience wise, he was.

the "consult your NCO staff" is advice from active duty, because tahts how it works on our side.

I am an NCO in the National Guard and I have to disagree with some of what was said. If you can not rely on your NCO's then your unit is just ate the hell up. It has nothing to do with the National Guard as a whole. It works the same on this side as it does on the active side unless, like I said your unit is assed up.

By the way I am in the Texas National Guard. I am currently working as a recruiter.......which is the most assed up command in the military
