Switch from ST Samsung basic phone to WHAT?

I currently have ST prepaid service with a Samsung SGH-t401g. The internet is very limited on the small screen so I don't even use it very much. It frustrates me. Now I am in Houston, TX and have a larger market to choose from with the prepaid services. I want the cheapest unlimited plan with a new phone (when I can afford it). I'm also wondering if I can use my current phone with a different service until I get a new one? And if so, which services?
 
I think that you're best option would be an unlimited plan through Boost Mobile ($50/Month) for unlimited everything, and its pay as you go, so no contract. BUT, they have a less then great phone selection if you are looking for a higher end smartphone, like an HTC or iPhone. If you want something like an iPhone or a high end HTC, i would buy an unlocked one on eBay, and hook it up through Boost. Or, you could pick one of Boost's phones, and choose that path. If you go for eBay, I recommend a 3GS ( I snagged a like new one with warranty for $275). Good Luck!
