Swing set on gravel. Help!?

We are currently renting a home. The landlord takes care of the lawn. We just got our son a swing set for his 3rd birthday. The landloard will not let us keep it on the lawn, and made us move it to gravel! Ridiculous in my opinion. It is a simple metal swingset.
Would it hurt our grass in anyway? Is there anything we can buy (that is inexpensive) to put under the swing set on the gravel.
I am so upset about this. We are renting the house.. yard included!
The problem with gravel is I have a three year old who is could easily fall off the swing. Grass will pad that fall, gravel will cut him and cause a very hard fall. For us, gravel is not a good option.
Though you can tell who is a parent and who is not just by the answers people give.

What your landlord is doing is wrong. You're paying for this house, you should get to use all of it, whether he likes it or not. I would tell him, "Sir, we're paying for this whole house, lawn included. I simply don't understand why we can't put my son's swing set on the lawn. We're paying for the house, all of it."

However, if you're not feeling that bold, I would get a large-ish outdoor mat. You could put it under the swing set so the grass won't get damaged, if that's what he's worried about.

Good luck! Remember, you're the one paying for the house, so you should be able to put your poor son's swing set on the lawn. If it's on the gravel, rocks could make it unsteady and your son could get severely injured. That wouldn't be good. Tell your landlord this.

Again, good luck! I wish you the best, and tell your son happy birthday!

It wouldn't hurt the grass at all. Tell him you can do the yard work in that area of the grass.
