Wahhhh! Someday I do have to cook these again. I don't like them
grilled or fried. I has to be some nice cream sauce, with a bit
of wine. Morels would be divine with them.

Indescribable difference. Morels are divine--IMO much better than
most, if not all, other mushrooms.

An aside: I am saddened to see the scraps I had been saving to
scatter in the new yard have disappeared.

They probably got thrown away. To anyone else, they'd just look
like a bag full of dried up food that should have been discarded.
Heck, if *I* wasn't paying attention, I could have done that myself.

They are supposed to like rotted [rotting?] elm, too. Until about
15 yrs ago I thought that the flavor of morels was partly mythology--
'they must taste great, as they're hard to find'. I was too cheap
to buy them and ever managed to find a patch.

Then a patch sprouted practically in my back yard. My neighbor and
I picked about 2/3 of them- agreeing to leave the rest to propagate.
We each got a peck or so. The flavor did not disappoint! Fresh
or dried, they are still one of the flavors I count myself lucky to
have tried.

Sorry we didn't take *all* of them. They have never re-appeared.
Maybe this year. . . . hope springs eternal. . .

They also like apple orchards. My dad's house was in what used to
be part of an apple orchard, and I would find morels in the grass.
Oh, I miss that special surprise!
