Joining Depp is Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett, Sweeney's amorous accomplice, who creates diabolical meat pies. The cast also includes Alan Rickman, who portrays the evil Judge Turpin, who senRAB Sweeney to prison and Timothy Spall as the Judge's wicked associate Beadle Bamford and Sacha Baron Cohen is a rival barber, the flamboyant Signor Adolfo Pirelli.

i have just seen the trailer for this and it looks quite cool, although it does look very 'Tim Burton by numbers'. I'm not the biggest fan of his style but most of his work is, at the very least, quite intriguing.

I just hope that they can all sing! The Sondheim score is pretty demanding for experienced singers - I saw Bryn Terfel and Maria Friedman make a bit of a hash of it earlier this year - I'm really hoping it'll be good rather than another Gerard "SounRAB Like I'm strangling a Walrus but am Very Good Looking" Butler in "Phantom of the Opera" moment

Im looking forward to Sweeny Todd. Unfortuantly its not released in the UK untill the 25th Jan 2008 as it is released a month after the US on 21st December!

The Trailer looks fantastic.

I really can't wait for this film, first film I've really anticipated since the Simpsons lol Looks dark and sinister as usual with Burton but also slightly comedic aswell.

Really can't wait, the trailer shows Depp singing, and he's apparantly taken a "punky" approach to the singing so don't expect too much and you shouldn't be dissappointed.

Don't know If I'll be able to wait a whole month between US and Uk release though, may need to have a sneaky look at it online lol

I love Burton films. Unique, stylish and fun without being formulaic. Sleepy Hollow and Ed Wood are two extremely underrated films. Can't wait for this.

I tend to watch a few things online as I don't get out to the cinema as much as I should but i think I'll make an exception for this

You have just made my day with that Gerard Butler comment. :D

He destroyed any chance the film version of Phantom had with his dreadful singing. I haven't seen it since, and I don't want to... ever again.

As far as I am concerned; The people who thought his singing performance was even remotely good are broken down into one of/all of the following:

A) They have no understanding whatsoever as to what an "Opera" singer in a production of this magnitude is required to deliver in regarRAB to their musical performance.

B) They have a horrible musical ear.

C) They fancy him.

The first time I saw the film, I had to listen to the original 1986 London Cast Soundtrack as soon as I got back to get Butler's horrible singing voice out of my head. Thank you Michael Crawford!! ;)

Even Rhydian Roberts currently performing in The X Factor massively out-performed Gerald Butler when he sang the title song.

Back to the topic in discussion:

I'm seeing Sweeney Todd next week. I'll let you know what I thought of it.

Gerard Butler.

Habit... I've got to stop doing that! :D

I got hold of a promotional release of the Sweeney Todd Soundtrack yesterday, and I've listened to it quite a few times now.

Depp isn't the world's greatest singer. However, his singing performance required for this film is often acceptable and suitable for the title role.

Saw the trailer today, it looks a bit naff. Johnny Depp rolls out his Jack Sparrow accent once again:rolleyes: and there was a lot of sniggering in the cinema when he started singing. But perhaps it's meant to be over the top. Not high on my list of 2008 must see films.

I don't expect much of it, although I will see it because of Johnny Depp. I heard the soundtrack which was nothing but a musical, very disappointing. Hope the movie is better.
