Swedish Wallander Series 2

Lol, :D no need. Generally, English is the first foreign language taught in schools in the Scandinavian countries so they've got no problems with understanding the odd bit of English language dialogue which might appear in the middle of a programme.

In what way is it better than the average UK or American crime drama? The plot of last night's episode was absurd from beginning to end - with scene after scene that was just unbelievable.

Just a few of the stupidities:

Why did the drugs have to go by high powered motorcycle, so that the criminals had to recruit a very reluctant national champion racer? Why not just put them in the boot of a car?

Why would the Mr Big of the drugs ring go to pick up the consignment from the courier himself?

Why would the Mr Big's henchman want to intimidate the police woman in order to protect the dog guy - if he was only going to kill the same guy the next day?

If Nyberg's senile mother was wandering in her nightie for three days around the churchyard near where the drugs were being picked up: Where exactly was she? Why did nobody see her? Why did she not die of exposure? Why did Nyberg not get his colleagues to organise a search for his mother?

I could go on and on.

I watch the Swedish Wallander because of the novelty of its setting, but this series is inferior in plot and acting to most of the crime dramas on TV.
 
For once, I sussed the ending long before the end - haven't done that in a while (I used to really annoy the missus when I'd do that at the cinema - haven't been there together in a while either!)

I know it's obvious, but I've only just noticed...does the plot have to revolve around the inappropriate actions of the local populus/journo so often? Whether it's racism or anti-paedophiles, there always seems to be some local eejits that want to take the law into their own hanRAB...

Kurt's attempts not to chat up his intended "squeeze" were the best bits.

Apropos of nothing but has anyone else noticed Johanna's transformation in her face during the series? She looks nothing like she does at the beginning. Does it have anything to do with her depression/drugs etc? She looks a totally different person now with a much fuller face. She must have felt really low during the filming of the series. She was such a wonderful actress but watching her, I find, is difficult bearing in mind what happened to her after the filming. Really tragic.
 
I thought exactly the same thing. It sounded funny and sad at the same time.

When she cried in the car at the end it was the most realistic I have ever seen (perhaps for real reasons that are almost unbearable to think about). I just wanted Kurt to cuddle and comfort her but he just seems unable to show his emotions in that way
 
Being a Midwife I jumped to the conclusion Linda was pregnant when she appeared to seemingly put on weight & get puffy in the face, especially when the story-line seemd to be going in that direction (when she split up with the greasy side-kick).
However after looking her up & noting when the series had been recorded, it seems Johanna was suffering from depression, after being in the 2004 Tsunami. Anti-depressants can cause those sort of side-effects.
Unfortunately she commited suicide in 2007 & Mankell did not finish the books he was writing based on the Linda Wallander character as he was so devastated - allegedly.
We watched the 2nd series before this one & I have to admit, I did prefer it.

Thank you for this post Pat. I hadn't clocked the Crime Thrillers awarRAB, but found them on ITV player.

What a reception he got, as you say, fingers x'd he will reconsider his decision not to make anymore.
 
I have to say, she looked utterly hot in this. Much better with a bit of meat on her.
Shallow but there you go.

Wonderful episode and a very thoughtful ending.
 
Last night's episode of Wallander (The Joker/Jokern) was awesome drama with all the twists and turns and potentially different suspects including rogue cop Frank Borg*.

After this run of Series 1 enRAB, I hope that BBC 4 do an number of things including repeat Series 2, show the 1990s series with Rolf Lassg
