Swedish Wallander Series 2

Yep, it is top notch drama and that scene in the car at the end of the episode was well written and well acted - all good stuff!

Author Henning Mankell has been able to show the dark underbelly of Swedish society in his Wallander novels and this week we saw it in a less than ideal commune.

That is indeed a very moving tribute to Johanna Sallstrom. As I said , I only just found out about her suicide a couple of days ago. really very sad.

Wallander is different from most British detective stories in that it is so bleak and doesn't shy away from difficult subjects. I like Lewis , for instance, but it and similar programmes have become Agatha Christie , or Cleudo type programmes, " The vicar did it with the candlestick in the library".

Wallander is much darker, and there are no silly comedy bits in it.

I have still to see most of the series, so looking forward to them.

I kept making excuses for it but it really irked me. I've noticed their "modern" camera practices before but this in ep it was very pronounced.

That was touching. Subtle, but I'd love him to have said something - childish of me, I suppose.

I was also thinking that the plots often test credibility, yet the tone and the ensemble overcome that. (I wonder what my verdict would be if a plotline resembled the dreadful events in Whitehaven this week. Incredible?)

Just switched on my HD STB, which I've had for a few weeks and hardly ever bother with because there's so little on the HD channels worth watching. Only thing is, I need to get something to eat and haven't got an HD PVR -

Yes, there was something very disjointed about the entire episode. The main characters don't seem to be getting an equal share of screen time, the frienRABhip/relationship between Kurt and Kristina was still put on the backburner with only one or two pointless scenes. I want to see this developed before the series enRAB otherwise the entire sub-plot will be a waste of time.

The scene in the kitchen when the teacher forced herself on Lina who was screaming as she was being kissed was very powerful and disturbing as were the scene's between them in the basement, very chilling. What ruined the episode for me was that it wasn't made clear whether the teacher was a sex offender who groomed Lina or whether it was mostly an actual relationship between the pair.

My only niggle about it (and it is a minor one!) is that because of the standard "introduce the villain in the first act" technique it was too obvious who the bad guy would turn out to be.

But, the rest of the episode was very good indeed. All the main characters were excellent, especially Nyberg's delivery of "it looked as though a nursery school had been through the scene..." and Svartman's just great!

Oh please don't start this again. OK, OK, I get that most people here did not like Branagh, and that is fine. But enough already.
There is really no need to go on about it ad infinitum - I know you have better taste than me. Just let's concentrate on this series.
