Swedish Wallander Series 2

Bazza says the thing that I've always felt about Swedish
Wallander

'The cops, victims and suspects look real, people with lives to lead outside the confines of the story'

Keep up all this good publicity about it RT, and maybe Mr H will change his mind.;)...............wishfull thinking:(

I have never seen the "Rolf" Wallander films, but I watched the first series of Yellowbird in absolute awe. I am so looking forward to this second series, its the last for Krister I read somewhere, but then the whole ensemble is so "connected", if you know what I mean, I have a lump in my throat just thinking about it.
IMHO, the British Nyman is not a patch on the Swedish one; or Anne-Britt Hogland, too, too earnest.

Exactly P, the characters had to start telling each other what was happening because there wasn't enough time to show it:rolleyes:
Plus they got that bloke that shouts all the time, that didn't help either:D
Plus it went on for a hundred years:D:D
I wouldn't want them to do that with Wallander, but another series would be just perfect:)..............not holding my breath tho:cry:

A fantastic end to the series. I'm glad we saw a lot more of the prosecutor, and no real loss not seeing Pontus and Isabelle as much as I liked them. I really reget only finding this programme about halfway through the series.

Yes, the criminals always come from Eastern Europe, Lithuania in this case , not Yugoslavia, and I doubt very much if a British programme could always show eastern europeans in such a bad light. And talking about light, I notice that both the goodies and baddies smoke , again not something a British production would show.

I'll have to try and find the earlier programmes , though it is never quite the same when you have seen later episodes. The strange thing is , I never really notice the sub titles , something that has always put me off watching foreign programmes.

You're right.

In Sweden there is a big problem with how minorities feel like they are being excluded from mainstream Swedish society. Most immigrants/minorities live in impoverished soviet style housing estates on the suburbs of towns and cities with over 50% of the population of these estates being of ethnic origin. This causes a segregation problem. An estate with the biggest problem is 'Roseng

Main difference between the two is that the Swedish is an ensemble piece with well developed supporting characters whereas the BBC version is an unashamed Kenny B vehicle with a disproportionate and damaging amount of screen time spent in service of it

I think the word used in the subtitles was "praxis" when lady prosecutor & Wallander were on beach and she gave him the protocol or I suppose best practice/ procedures for interviewing minors.

highfidelity has just answered this and if you check IMDB he is Peter Adler in the later episode rather than Ralph Sahlin in this one, so yes, different character.

His imdb page is here

Yes, very uncomfortable scenes but fascinating to see the complex relationship and the affection that pins it together despite everything else.

Watching Series 1 for the 1st time, I always felt some episodes didn't quite follow on.....especially the relationship between Linda and Stefan, which seemed on and off on and off without any explanation.

I have enjoyed all the Swedish Wallander episodes and will be sorry to see it end this weekend. The change of country and characters added new interest to the police format. Does anyone know the best place to keep track of Krister Henriksson's next projects ?

As a big fan (have read all the books and just finished "the Pyramid") I have one episode left of series 1 to watch.....

I missed recording the first 3 shows of series 2:(. Does anyone know if BBC4 will be repeating series 2? or is their a resource on line where I can catch up please?

I was expecting some reference to Linda, beyond the photo, some explanation of where she was meant to have gone. Here we have Wallander in a new house, no explanation, no nothing. Maybe something will emerge as the series progresses.

And by the way, I think his hair has always been a funny unnatural colour. This time it looks unnaturally a lot thicker as well.

When they make homegrown drama of this quality they might have a point V, but until then..................:D

I believe Henning Mankel said, after the death of Johanna Salstrom, that he would never write another story with Linda in it.
As for Stefan, you'll need to watch the last series:D
